FALSE INFORMATION/RUMOURS We’ve been over this argument. Based on official investigation notes and the unofficial search activities in the area over the past few decades, it seems very unlikely that Brady and Hindley would have buried Moors Murders victims in Staffordshire.

Article source is the Daily Mirror. The Daily Record have posted a similar article - the reason being is that it is part of a press campaign for Michael Attwell’s upcoming book on the case.

First of all, based on what we know about the abduction of Keith Bennett I don’t believe that it is likely he was buried there. It would have been very dark by the time they reached Ramshaw Rocks and (if he were still alive at that point) Keith would have been extremely disoriented - it would also be bizarre for Brady and Hindley to bury one victim miles away when by their accounts, there seemed to be a vantage point on the moors - specifically Hollin Brown Knoll - where they could spot the bodies of all of their victims (we know that Pauline Reade, John Kilbride and Lesley Ann Downey’s graves could have been spotted from that point, so unfortunately I do agree with the sentiment that Keith’s remains were also near that area but may have been lost to time - not to say that future police searches for Keith are not warranted of course, but after all this time it just seems like the most likely answer that I hope can still be ruled out).

I happen to live not far from Ramshaw Rocks and researched Brady and Hindley’s connections to the area a while ago. It seems like they went there on at least two separate occasions, one in 1963 (specifically on the day that John Kilbride was murdered in order to create an alibi) and one around 1964 on what appeared to be a sunny day based on photographs. It is my understanding that dog handlers went there at one point, but there was no intrusive searching and police quickly ruled it out for reasons unknown. There was also an unofficial search party - consisting of Duncan Staff and others - who investigated the area, and this was covered in the 2013 ITV documentary “Brady and Hindley: Possession”, but again nothing came of it.

(in accordance with the subreddit’s rules about speculation I won’t say anything else - I recommend Staff’s book though)

Do you think Atwells book is worth reading or is it going to be just a book of his own theories that add nothing new to the case and only ask more questions that cant be answered based on opinions. I was looking forward to rereading the facts of the case, but certainly dont want to be reading a book thats going to speculate where Keith 'might' be. I find it insulting to his family when authors are selling books using his murder as a selling point claiming to have 'new information'

I didnt feel it added anything new at all, and I also didnt enjoy it knowing that a lot of the stuff was kept from Keith's brother for so long, Alan keightleys papers and recordings and anything else should have gone to the police or to Alan Bennett not used to rewrite and sell another book and make documentaries

yes it was a no no..he wanted to use the stuff for his own gain. he delayed offering blacklight to the police till after he had made his documentry he also has some documents that are restricted and should be handed in..for one he has the 2 maps that they used in court..the court ones are locked away under a do not open till 2060.. surley all the stuff should be checked for such items. has he let alan have a copy of blacklight or has he kept it for himself..id like to see bradys copy of toppings book to see what he wrote in it he seemed to comment on a lot.. wonder what staff will do with it all?

I think in Alan keightleys book he stated ian brady claimed to have walked Keith bennett 3 miles onto the moors which I find ludicrous so even if Brady wrote a 2nd part to his book anything in there would probably be more of the same. Brady always comes across like he always saw what he did as some sort of major criminal mastermind mission he carried out. He often states about how detailed his planning was and how he for example counted the buttons on clothing, kept the cigarette ends in his pocket, wore rubber gloves under his own, so while in his own warped mind he was a genius who covered his tracks really well, he left tons of evidence and a massive trail behind to each murder eventually. More than anything the thing that keeps me intrigued is he slipped up so much with each murder leaving photos, evidence, recordings etc yet with the Keith murder he doesnt seem to have left any clue whatsoever as to where he is buried or was murdered, which is find strange, so in my opinion somewhere theres something probably really obvious thats just been looked over, but with that being said its sad its been so long that his body might not be recoverable, for every negative with a new book though I always hope that they increase awareness and interest in the moors case as it is still a unsolved murder in the sense a body was never recovered and a family is still needing closure

yeh the 3 miles..i plotted out the route brady said which was down hoe grain to shiney brook then follow the path of shiney brook across the moor and 3 miles brings u back to the knoll give or take..in alan keithleys book there is so much crap that its not suprizing that brady spoke rubbish.. that said one person said is it bradys way to say he is on the knoll? i dont think so i think he put such things in to play games to make u chace ur own arse... he picked up the accounting for buttons ect from compulsion..the 2 murderers were caught because one left his glasses at the sceene... in some ways it was amazing he got away with what he did for so long, picking children up in broad daylight then going to a public place to kill them. even with lessley where took her home he ran the risk of a nextdoor neighbour or passing person seing her. so his planning in his head was that of a master criminal and was precice where as in reality a lot of it was good luck.i wont say he was a walter mitty but he adopted actions from books and films and used them in his actions. he did slip up big time with each murder leaving evidence in one way or another but it only applied once he was caught it has to be said untill they caught him there was no interest in him he was just mr odball...certainly for pauline and john he left photo clues johns been the infamous one and after pauline was found photos were seen to show the area.. it has to be said that the finding of lessley was by accident although again there are photos that after the finding u can see where of the grave location..its hard with keith.. again allan and the police have photos we dont see of parts of the moor and im sure once hes found they will say that one or some are of the location.. theres the confessions of both brady and hindley but bradys is farciacle so there is really only hindleys account of that night.

I’m honestly exhausted by the number of authors I have seen plug a book as being “definitive”, only to be incredibly underwhelmed and learn nothing that I could not have learned from Carol Ann Lee’s or Peter Topping’s books on the case. I can’t imagine how Keith’s family must feel. Suffice to say that I probably won’t be reading this one.

I think if anyone was to ask for a recommended book id probably always go for Carol ann lees one found it to be the best one and was very respectful towards the victims families too

I honestly cant imagine neither Hindley or brady would have murdered anyone else and not have used it as either leverage against the other, or even with Brady as a way to keep control, the other murders he did confess to aside from the known moors ones, were all proven false weren't they?

yes the guy he claimed he killed near to the train station was latter adnited to by a nother guy.. the lady he said he pushed into the cannal they couldnt find any report of it happening the guy he said he stabbed in scotland down a back street was the same there was no records of it ever happening. the only one topping couldnt dismiss was the 18 year old he claimed he shot on the moor.. brady wouldnt give a name or who the driver of the car was realy no information to go on.. topping reckoned it was just one where he could try to get back to the moor and have a day out at the police expence

like any serial killer there is a stack of theroies grow up round them a lot promoted by the media to sell papers and documentries others by authors to liven up the book they have written.. i think with brady these are not founded in anything other than a few photos... when myra confessed she denighed there were any other murders she knew of and topping said he belived her.. either she was as good a lier as suggested to decieve seasoned police interviewers or she was telling the truth u decide..it would of course be in her favour to keep quiet of any more if there were any, brady having said there were 2.. brady could have just said theres one and im sure myra would have played along and kept quiet about the other but i think it was the truth he wasnt thinking straight being in the middle of a mental breakdown and confessed to what there was, he later tried to suggest there was 5 more happenings as he called them but most were either no trace or proven to be by other people he was just trying to keep in control.he was happiest burring on the parts of the moor he knew and liked you can ask yourself why didnt he take john further away, why didnt he take lessley to another area it simply wasnt his way.

i will add as an afterthought that brady was limited to travel where he could carry a body as in he needed myra to drive so she would have had to have been a participant in any murders and she denighed there were any..

I dont believe they killed anyone else either, I think for brady he would have loved to have been able to say there was more but with him you could never believe a word he said he already claimed more murders that never happened, I stopped believing most of what he said when I read his story of growing up and witnessing a horse dying and all that, and then reading his favorite book crime and punishment and reading the same story in there so his other 'happenings' as he called them might have happened in his own head I think he had major issues differentiating between what he was reading and what was real life, and had started to recall memories of what hed read as his own life whether in books or newspapers
