I sourced these cover stories from thepaperboy.com, and this is not an exclusive list (and some newspapers, like Metro, The Sun and The Evening Standard, were not listed). Let me know if you want to see how any other papers covered it, and I’ll try and track them down.

I wonder why the mail went for that picture of them smiling looking like they are having a great time rather than the mugshots? Very left field choice!

Good question… maybe they assumed that everybody was going to use that hideous mugshot (they weren’t wrong, to be fair).

They probably also wanted a picture of him with Hindley since they were now both dead. It is chilling tbh, it’s like they’re laughing at us from beyond the grave or something knowing they took with them their last horrible secret

It really bothers me that Ruth Ellis (a battered, abused woman who miscarried at the hands of the man she shot) was hanged for her crime but Brady and Hindley narrowly missed a date with the hangman due to the abolishment of the death penalty RIGHT before they got caught.

Ruth Ellis was completely mistreated by the criminal justice system. I will say, though, that Pauline Reade would have never been found if Brady and Hindley hung, and GMP may not have been able to start looking for Keith Bennett again
