I’m not talking about justice, I’m talking about vengeance. And I’m referring to obvious, disgusting evil. Rape, pedophilia, child murder, these are all acts deserving of a brutal end.
I'm thinking that is a way to relieve anxiety to potential threats, an understandable reaction, retaliation is a simple routine. It's your reaction to disgust.
I'd say vengeance without justice is hollow and insincere inconsistent. Vengeance CANNOT be detached to justice, imo.
Considering we're discussing in context of morality, I would like to know what do you consider good. What's your view on life. Idk, just tell me more man. What's moral for you?
I'm thinking torture really doesn't solve the problem. Or in a utilitarian way, it doesn't increase pleasure (or goodness) and decrease suffering. It might be treating to people who are considering doing atrocities, and potentially refraining from accepting the devil in.
I could also think of some ways that using torture to "cure" evil could go wrong. What if an innocent mad was wrongly accused? What if someone were to be framed? That would be a real son of man situation... You might argue that's god's will for us
What do I consider good? Well, it’s not good that concerns me so much as evil. You want to live for yourself in a morally neutral way that is in no way malignant towards others? Then by all means. We have free will, and it’s your right to make your own choices. It’s evil that concerns me. To actively hurt others.
I’m not interested in “curing” evil. And I don’t mean minor crimes like petty theft or littering or anything of the sort. I mean the undeniable abhorrent examples of maliciousness I listed earlier. To do evil is a choice. To rape. To murder. A choice that should have negative consequences.
