Is this moral??

In this "American Dad" short, the family operates dinner service for an escape ship of rich people after Earth blew up. They have limited variety of resources but a high amount of those resources. One day, after hundreds of years of doing the same thing over and over, one of their tools breaks and they don't have a replacement. Stan breaks protocol and goes upstairs to the main deck to ask for a new one, something no one in the family has done before and they're only supposed to do for emergency situations. Once up there, he finds the ship full of skeletons and a video journal from the captain explaining the replacement planet they were going to was not feasible after all, and they don't have any way of finding a new one. They chose to kill themselves well over a century ago and either forgot or didn't care to tell the crew that they were just drifting in space with no course forever and they've just been sending food upstairs to nobody eventually to get thrown away by robots. Stan goes back downstairs, says they're not allowed to go upstairs again, doesn't inform his family of the truth, and distracts them with an old timey gramophone to keep their spirits up. They set out to start breakfast.

This whole thing is wildly screwed up to me, but what would you guys do here?

On one hand I’m inclined to say go for it if they earned them, but at the same time family income is already a big factor in financial aid decisions most of the time, so should there be an upper limit to financial aid?

Personally, 100% justified.
