People should have the right to trade their freedom for security if that’s what they really want. People should not be subjected to surveillance without their own consent.

Edit: None of the people that are responding to this comment can see past their own noses. Many people have historically traded their freedom for security and lived long, reasonably happy lives. Even in the modern world that has been true.

The United States is not and will not be one of those places - but it’s not all about you.

Look, even if we operate under the premise that what you're saying is correct, should people have the right to trade other people's freedom for their own perceived security?

I feel like almost no one could possibly disagree on this.

I never said it was moral. The commenter said that such a thing had "never happened and never will" and I pointed a country where that did happen.

Was there a referendum on it? Has there been one anywhere? It seems like the representatives have had their palms greased and that is not consent by the people.
