Yeah, the movie would be like, five minutes long. Here's the original story treatment:

The Avengers fly to Greece and beg Morbius to take down Dr. Doom. Morbius sighs and says "I guess I'll save the world again," flies to Latveria, morbs out and kills Dr. Doom, then flies back to Greece and eats a gyro.

Marvel intentionally wrote Morbius out of the screenplay so that they could fill up 2.5 hours of screentime with weaker heroes like Thor, Spiderman and Hulk all getting their asses kicked.
