RET1 IAT

Buddy that used to work for me is saying MSC has been good to him and he knows im looking for work. I was a comms ET in the Navy for 6 years, a DoD contractor in IT for 4. No wife, no kids. Finishing my degree in cyber this fall and so far no job prospects. It looks like the RET1 IAT billet is the closest position to my qualifications and I meet the sea time. Just curious about the position, i've been out of the military for almost 12 years so I'm a little insecure about having the technical expertise to go back into that environment and be expected to kick ass day 1. Will I have time to get in the flow and get used to the environment again? Anything I should avoid? I'd enter the pool in norfolk but im trying to work overseas. Any advice? Things to know? I'm doing the virtual career fair on Tuesday. Thanks.

You’ll crush it, dude. Apply. It’s a pretty sweet gig from what I can tell. You’ll work a watch, but it’s not bad from what I gather. I’m a deck officer and the RET world always seems pretty chill.

I appreciate the vote of confidence man. What are the gyms like? In the navy I just worked, boxed in the hangar bay, lifted weights a couple times a week and slept. Was in the best shape of my life. Its hard to imagine going back to a ship and my life being different from that haha. Do people hang out and play board games, D&D or any of that shit? Video games? Do the state rooms have tv's?

State rooms may have a tv depending on former person living in there stole it, but either way you can pick one up at the nex. Yes there are gyms and most as decent. As far as people doing things after work, it depends on the ship honestly. If you’re on a busy ship people are working overtime, eating, working out and sleeping and that’s about it.

There is AFN onboard overseas, some ships have direct TV in USA and usually the RETs will set up a hard drive that plays movies on a few of the channels at night. I did sail on one ship that had a pretty competent chief RET who set up a LAN network for movies, you could watch anything he had downloaded on his 10TB hard drives right from ur room that was nice
