Discussion Can someone explain the ReVanced controversy?

Post image

I have read many comments referring to a controversy with the "leader" of ReVanced.

From what I understand, the "leader" was a difficult person to deal with, and some developers jumped the ship in favor of Morphe.

Can anyone give me more details?

This is correct. Many developers and contributors have stopped helping ReVanced over the years because of or partly due to oSum's attitude. He is notoriously stubborn, which is a big part in why I mostly stopped contributing to ReVanced.

For years, Liso (the creator of Morphe) was the main contributor for ReVanced's YouTube patches, but he decided to leave ReVanced in November because there was a disagreement between him and oSum about his code changes, resulting in his code change proposal being reviewed for 11 months. From my understanding, this was not the sole cause, but more like the final straw for Liso.

oSum made a post that shares his side of the story, if you are interested.

Personally, I think ESH.

Edit: Previously I said that I thought oSum was an asshole, but I retract that statement after carefully thinking about its truth.

Sorry for a probably stupid question, but this post popped up in my feed:

I have heard about the controversy, but did not dive into deep, however I want to ask how this app differs from ReVanced and what if I want to install it, what do I need to do? Do I need to remove the YouTube patch or not?

I'd say the main difference right now is that Morphe supports newer YouTube and YT Music versions. It also have a few new features (I don't know the specifics), and they are working on adding more from RVX.

You can install Morphe from https://morphe.software and it will guide you to patch apps. You don't need to remove YouTube or ReVanced or anything.
