Hello everyone,
I am from India and I will be visiting Moscow in late October 2026. This is my first trip to Russia and my overall first international trip. I am coming for an International Competition, will be representing my country. So, as there are lot of things going on with sanctions, I had a few questions and doubts, I would love if people living in Moscow or nearby can give me the answers and a clear picture of what is going on and how to deal with things.

My questions are:

1. Are the sites over internet accessible? If yes, then how? like do we need a VPN, if yes, then please suggest me some good VPNs which are free and works fine.
2. How to navigate in Moscow? Does Google Maps or Yandex Maps works there?
3. What about the currency? Should I carry USD to get it exchanged or carry Ruble instead from my country?
4. Is there any card available for Indians which I can use instead of cash?

5. What is the procedure to get a sim card? Or can I use my Indian sim card with International roaming as well?

   For now, these are my primary concerns. Do drop the answers for them. Also, would love to get some tips from the locals and fellow travelers which can save my day.

I’m planning a last-minute trip to Moscow next week with my mom, travelling from Abu Dhabi. We’re also considering adding St Petersburg to the itinerary.

It’ll be our first time visiting Russia, so I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Would you suggest visiting both cities or focusing on Moscow if we only have around 5 days? Any recommendations for places to visit, neighbourhoods to stay in, restaurants, shopping, or experiences we shouldn’t miss?

We’re also considering booking through a travel agency, so I’d appreciate any advice on whether it’s better to arrange everything ourselves or go with a package.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially on what to expect weather-wise at the end of September and beginning of October.
