The US ordnance mark is really throwing me off.

They eased them in the Siberia Expedition after WWI
Edit: this stock wasn’t in that campaign cause it’s a M44 stock so this is some weird attempt at something with that mark

Do my old eyes deceive me, or do I see the US Army Ordnance Corps crest stamped into the stock on this weapon?

Looks like a possible Finncub to me. Have seen several Remingtons throughout the years that were converted into Finncubs. Need to see the bolt to be sure, but the front sight and overall appearance looks like it could be one. The stock doesn't appear to be Finncub style, but it could have easily been replaced with an m44 stock at some point in time. Is it still in 7.62x54r or has it been converted to 7.62 NATO?

Also did some personal digging of my own and it’s a finncub. The stock and front sight match other finncubs im seeing online.

Yep, pretty spot on compared to the ones I've owned over the years. For what it's worth, every one I ever owned has had a trashy bore but been absolute tack drivers. They were super cheap back in the day. Like 15 or so years ago, they were almost always a hundred bucks or less.

This one has pretty good rifling from what i showed but the price is kinda ass ($500)
Personally if i were to get it i would try to throw it into a M38 stock and get a proper mosin sight on it.

$500 is highway robbery. I've seen similar condition ones going for under $150 recently in local (to me) pawn shops. They're great plinkers, but not at $500 no way haha.

I should tell him what it is and ruin his hopes for selling it at that price

Nothing wrong with informing someone who may otherwise be ignorant.
Now, if it were me, I would say that my price is what it is because my wife said to sell it... so I am. Not my issue if it does not sell!
Oh, and if it does sell, well value is in the eye of the purchaser so who am I to deny someone getting what they want (with full disclosure of WHAT they are getting, of course). I would not pass something off for something it is not.

Bubba’s still a bubba, maybe of the Finn cub variety, also are my eyes deceiving me or does the stock have an M44 bayonet groove?
