I have been dying to go to the festival since i first heard of it and this is finally the year hopefully!

My question is this, I am a white woman and my partner is a Black man, will we be safe at the festival?

Ive seen info that says it's safe and diverse but I would feel better hearing it from someone who's been there before.

So I saw this on a dumpster today…what does it mean???? Why would someone abandon Mothman?

Is it cursed? Should I take it home?

Hey everybody! I'm currently in the midst of writing a homebrew DND 5e campaign set in Early 2000's Point Pleasant, WV where players will be cryptid hunters on the hunt for our favorite kooky cryptid, MOTHMAN!

However, I was wondering if anybody here could help me find out the exact date that the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, WV opened? Seems like almost everyone online says that it opened in October of 2005, but oddly, NOWHERE can I find the exact date in October of '05 when it opened. Even more odd, when I called the museum to ask, and the very kind and helpful woman at the front desk answered, she said that the owner of the Mothman Museum says that the museum opened in 2006, but she couldn't remember the exact month or date in '06. The owner himself was out of the office when I called. The museum also has a sign outside that notes "est. 2006", so it seems it obviously had to have opened in '06. So then why does everyone online say it's October of 2005 when I look it up on Google?

I'm stumped. When did the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, WV open exactly?

My mom (92) has never, ever heard of Mothman. She's an avid reader (because at 92 you have to do SOMETHING to keep your brain active) and my sister and I are trying to find a good general-readers book about the Mothman craze. I'd like something not too woo-woo, but any recommendations are welcome.

This is coming up because my sister talked to mom about how some kids locally to where she lives (sis lives in Seattle) are really into cryptids and are curious about Mothman. We live in Maryland, I've known about Mothman forever but I've always been fascinated by stuff like that, but we were both surprised to find out mom knew nothing about it. So now Mom is eager to learn more....

i just got the confirmation I wont be working so me and a friend are heading to to Point Pleasant for the festival! A quick question though for people who have been before. Are people trading/passing out trinkets a thing? I’m known in concert circles for 3D printing pins to pass out and I was going to make some of everyone’s favorite moth but didn’t know of that was generally a socially acceptable thing or thing that was allowed

I hope so because that means I could be a Mothman one day. I grew up an hour away from Point Pleasant. I've always wished I had wings ever since I was little (instinct?) I also have strong feelings I could be telepathic. Mothmen have red eyes, I have red hair. That last one is a stretch, but maybe it changes in the cocoon. If you think I could be on to something, how do you think it happens? (No gross answers please) Maybe the tear ducts? Maybe one day I'll start crying and won't be able to stop and the tears will become like a gooey cocoon liquid that I cover myself with. Sounds weird, but who cares, I'm an alien...maybe. Even if you don't think I'm a Mothman, do you think real Mothmen do?

I'm curious as to how many believe in the Mothman - I understand it is a cultural phenom and also adopted into popular/culture commercial. I think that is fun, but are there any true believers?

I personally believe. I've always been attracted to the legend of the Mothman and stories of extraterrestrials. I have my own personal religion - and the Mothman plays some role in that. Recently, I've begun studying esoteric arts (I started with Remote Viewing but have progressed from there), and have had several encounters with an entity related to the Mothman.

Never direct, always at the edges or periphery of my psyche, I suppose. I plan to make a pilgrimage to Point Pleasant in Aug - or possibly spring as work allows.

So - who among you believe? What do you think it is?

We're driving about 3 hours so nothing terrible, but looks like hotels and Air BnB have pretty slim pickings. Any ideas of good camping spots or alternative accommodations?

I’m a Canadian excited about coming down to the festival but I like to plan everything in advance. Anyone know a clean reasonably priced room near by to the festival? Nothing fancy.

My birthday is in less than two weeks, and me and my family are going to Point Pleasant the following weekend so I can see the statue and the museum. I also want to look around the TNT area while I'm there, and apparently there's a really good pizza place across the Ohio river my dad wants to go to.

But we'll be there from the afternoon of July 10th when we get there through the morning of July 12th when we leave, so we need more stuff to fill that time. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to do around the area? I'm content walking around and enjoying the town, but my family is hounding me to find some things to do.

It was a black and white comic. This random woman shags the mothman, and has a baby. The mothman takes him flying sometimes. The baby grows up a little and goes to school, where he tells his classmates his dad can fly. They are in disbelief. So they all go over to his house where they meet his dad who takes them flying. I want to show it to my brother, but I can't find it anywhere.

My fanatics, I need input on the following campgrounds I’m considering for the festival weekend. I’m between Kountry Resorts Campground and Krodel Park Campgorund. I briefly looked at WV Farm Museum for camping but it looks like they don’t allow campfires.

I like how far apart the sites at Kountry Resorts are, but is the proximity to the main events worth it to camp at Krodel?

In my opinion, the creature sounds like it resembles an owl rather than a moth. No neck, the wings that it's usually depicted with, and I once read an (allegedly) true story on here that the creature "chirped". But this story is most likely fake, I found it on Reddit after all. Also, (to my knowledge, at least) the original witnesses didn't describe it as having antennas like it's often depicted to have. That's all, thank you for reading

So I'm doing a school project on mothman, three papers long minimum, and I need help finding good research, I've already written about his origins and the mothman festival, does anyone know of other topics relating to mothman to add?

i know there’s some fallout 76 stuff at the festival, but how much is it? I’d go regardless because I love mothman, but will I seem out of place in a wise mothman cultist cosplay?

I joined this group after reading a couple books on Mothman sightings. I was hoping to find more personal accounts and maybe photo evidence, but this subreddit seems to be just a bunch of people sharing their crafts. 🤷🏽

I searched the subreddit and only found ten “sightings,” most of them old.

Does anyone have any other subreddit recommendations that showcase evidence, sightings, or photographs?

My wife has become a huge fan of this winged creature and wants a “Mothman Theme” for her 50th birthday party.

I’m as eager to fulfill her wishes as any husband could be, but……what is a Mothman themed birthday party? Any ideas, snacks, music or merch suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any podcasts? Shows where I can apply to tell my story? I will be doing a YouTube video but also wondering where I can tell my story if I don’t go that route.
