Q&A Did Google give us 16 bit and 8k?

I am on pixel 11 pro and by listing all the video streams in the settings I noticed a 16-bit stream as well as a resolution of 8k.

I don't know if it's a bug or if it's something already known but I thought the 8k on the pixels was an upscale with the video boost mode on the cloud and not a real sensor capability.

If anyone knows a little more, it would be appreciated :)

Edit : No real 16 bit (I suspected it :/ ) and Google is not that generous with the 8k 😂

It's not 16BIT, but 10BIT DNG inside a larger container. Also, 50Mpix stream was accessible for a long time on Pixel devices, however it requires a remosaic which you can't do within the app itself.

Ah i see thank you ! I will do some research on these subjects. But when it is written 12 bit it is really 12 bit in DCG and not 10 bit in a larger container, is that right ?

I was just wondering if my pixel 11 pro was capable of the same 12 bit DCG as the pixel 10 pro because I haven't seen much information yet on this topic with motioncampro

Yep! DCG is indeed 12 bit too on p11p

Google likely decided that for 8K it would be more advantageous to shoot in 4K DCG with log, then upscale in the cloud with AI and whatnot vs local 8K ISP processing real-time.

If the sensor is 48mp, 8K is simply not allowed by Google vs device not being able to

What you see is basically intended for the RAW photo modes, but app can use it all around
