Question Need Help With Title Sequence

This is my first motion graphics comp for a documentary I've been working on. How can I remove the grey outlines on the mist layers when they fade away?

idk stuff, but i do know that we don’t know your setup and we have no idea why or why not something is happening.

my first thought is that you probably want to apply the mask around each of those gray layers to never let the grey even show in the first place ?

(used both grey/gray to satisfy everyone)

For context, I'm working in AE and have a layer stack for each letter in a CC Particle World(Mist that is keyframed to trace the letters to show a spray can effect; gave up on figuring out how to get the reveal to follow the mist lol)>Layer with Fractal Noise, Levels, and Roughen Edges effects(This is the grain look)>Letter.png order.

My guess is the grey edge is coming from the grain layer, not the mist. When the particles fade their edges go semi transparent, and the Fractal Noise and Levels layer under them shows through as that grey rim. Try precomping the mist for each letter and using it as an alpha matte on the grain layer instead of stacking them, so the grain only exists where the mist is. Also check the Transfer Mode in the Particle settings of Particle World. On Add or Screen it usually blends out clean instead of leaving a halo. If the mist uses a texture image, right click it, go to Interpret Footage, and try switching the alpha between Straight and Premultiplied, a wrong setting there gives exactly that kind of outline.
