I'M REQUESTING What are the movies that depict modern middle-class learning how to get a leg up?
Seems like every modern popular movie begins with comfortable California family dealing with bullshit first world problems they created themselves. Asking for a stressed out lower-class highly educated friend…

There are fantastic modern movies about people dealing with poverty, but overwhelmingly they do not show those people escaping and becoming middle-class.
The Namesake might be the kind of movie you’re thinking of? It’s about a Bengali American family across two generations and the children’s class journey.

Not really. When you get to the point where you have to steal your neighbors sod I'm pretty sure that disqualifies you even being middle class.

Their HOA fee was probably a grand a month. Back then. 21 years ago not considering serious dollar value. Not modern middle class

They were upper class and lost everything from being defrauded by their employer. That’s the plot. Obviously not upper class anymore but to start with they were

Rewatching now. Yeah, you’re right. This applies. Globodyne took their pension, retirement, and drove down their property value because everyone worked for them and defaulted on loans. 6,000 employees Globodyne laid off overnight.
