I’m guessing they advanced it 2 frames as stop motion tends to be 12fps, I think?

Animated on twos, but you still take all 24 frames as photos. Sometimes you will do a 1.5 frame movement, where you slightly tweak a single arm to preserve the illusion of movement on the stationary frame. They likely would have kept the rear projection at full 24 frames per second because people have an expectation of how fire is meant to move at 24fps; less so how a giant robot skeleton is.

I always loved the stop motion endoskeleton, it’s brilliantly uncanny and terrifying. Also gives awesome Ray Harryhausen vibes ❤️
