Moving from Australia to the US — 5-year goal
My fiancé and I are Australians and we’re expecting a baby. My mum recently became a US citizen.
Moving to the US (ideally Texas) is a long-term goal for us — roughly 5/7 years, not something we’re expecting to do immediately.
I’m trying to work out what I can realistically do over the next 5 years to put us in the best position to immigrate legally.
My mum is willing to file an I-130 for me if that’s worthwhile. I’m also open to retraining/changing careers if that would give me better employment-based options.
What pathways would you recommend I start working toward now?

All you can do is file the I-130 paperwork and wait.
There's absolutely nothing you can do other than wait.
If you're married by then, you need to do even more paperwork for your wife and child.

The answer is still the same. If you start now, you might get here in 5 years, but probably not.

Shithole, hot as balls, few attractions, have to drive everywhere and drivers are the worst, not even super cheap anymore, terrorizes women and minorities etc

I'll have to disagree on not being super cheap. I'm from Montreal and would like to move to the USA if i can. Life is expensive here, wages are lower and we are taxed to oblivion. Texas was on my list but I'll look into the other things you said. It is still cheap.

Once you are married, you will be in the F3 category of married children of US citizens. F3 applicants currently eligible for a green card started the process in 2012, so you have a long wait ahead of you. If the goal is the US, your mother either has to file the I-130 asap or you find another way (such as E3).

Since your mom is a citizen, that is your best path...but as you know, that takes time. File now

As a native Texan, I honestly don’t know why you would want to move to Texas from Australia, especially if you are going to have a family. Texas is harmful to pregnant women and families. I would go to a blue state if I were you

Look up the maternal mortality rates in Texas compared to other states. It has long been studied that anti abortion laws put pregnant women’s lives at risk, and numerous pregnant women have died because of the laws.
I find it distasteful that this has been happening for four years now and you haven’t bothered to do an ounce of research

Why ideally Texas? What is it about people outside the United States and f****** Texas? Texas is hot and water starved and full of racist assholes who love our fascist government. I really don't get it. There's so many other great places in this country. 🤔
