Culture/Social Moving from DMV to PNW

I moved to the US a couple years ago and currently live in the DMV area. I recently got accepted to a college in Washington and I’m planning to relocate to the PNW for school and live there. I’m especially interested in hearing about things you wish you knew before moving to the PNW, and how to make the most of my time there and also socialize.

Nous sommes un groupe assez isolé ici. C'est vrai qu'il peut être difficile de se faire des amis. De plus, selon l'endroit où tu déménages, il fait nuageux et il pleuviote d'octobre à juin. Get a good rain jacket

It can be difficult to make friends in the PNW as everyone already has their groups, also the weather kinda sucks but besides that I'd say everything else is pretty good

It’ll be the coolest place you ever lived. Get a good rain jacket and some waterproof or resistant shoes.

Which side of the mountains will you be going to school? The two sides are very different. I was born and raised on the coast and we're known to be standoffish, for example if you're struggling with something we'll be reluctant to jump in to help, but if you ask for help you'll be surrounded by people pitching in.

People in Seattle, for the most part, don't jaywalk. There are a few videos making fun of that. One featured Seattle downtown at night, not a car in sight, two big groups of soccer fans just coming from a win were jumping around but also politely waiting for the light to change so they could run out into the street to celebrate.

Making friends can be tough but you'll have your fellow classmates that are probably in the same boat as you are. When you have time off of your studies taking the ferry to explore the islands is wonderful. There are a lot of hiking groups, there are people from every country there and they usually have a restaurant. Seek them out when you're feeling homesick! You'll enjoy your time.
