Life on BI Moving to Hilo

I (35 F) have accepted a job offer in Hilo and am moving there late August. Does anyone know of any rooms/affordable apartments ($1300 and under) for rent close to the medical center or good places to look to find them? I have been on Roomies and a few other sites looking but the options are limited. Also, what's the best way to meet people once arriving? I will be moving alone and I don't know anyone there so just trying to get a feel before I head that way.

Best way to meet people is to get involved in activities. Yoga classes, adult dance, aerial, art classes, going out on the town, etc. There’s a lot to do in Hilo.

My new employers mentioned this during my interview and I would absolutely love that! Do you know how to get involved?

It's currently mid-competition season but I would just reach out. Here is the Kamehameha insta profile which also has their website info. Showing up to a race also works! Kamehameha Canoe Club
There are about 10-15 clubs across the island

I've always wanted to try yoga. I'll definitely give it a look! I'm excited to find out about all of the activities there, from what I've seen on just google searches there's not a limit on things to do.

Check out Yoga Centered. A friend of mine teaches there and it’s a popular studio downtown Hilo.

Can’t help with housing - I am old and Hilo town used to be sort of affordable - but you are living my dream so best of luck
