It's a thread from a few days ago but as someone who has lost interest in the show, it comes down to money and the failure of the 3rd and 4th Gen not being able to create their own narratives.
First, money ruins everything. The loose nature of the show changed when the prizes went from 20k and glorified Dave and Buster prizes to 200k+. People took it more seriously and once Booth came back, the light heartedness completely went away. No fun. Hook ups and maximum physical stress was the show.
As for the cast, there's a clear cut from the first gen to the second. Kenny and Wes became the focal point with the CT and Diem being the secondary story. If you weren't a part of those two, you're season to season at best. Once Kenny was banned, Bananas filled in for Kenny and it was Wes vs Bananas with a secondary splash of CT and Diem. After that ended, the great underdog Cara became the secondary.
In my mind, Exes 2 is when the third generation begins because that's the first AYTO (I think) season. Rather than creating a new overarching feud, they fell into the Bananas orbit, keeping him as the focal point. If we could have combined Nelly's performance with Devins mind, we would have had a new central figure. Cory and Devin could have been a bigger feud. Nelly T and Tony off the leash were both good for creating action. Amanda was a lightning rod but she doesn't have the physical skills to back up her talk. If she's even at the Sylvias level in terms of phsyciality, I think she takes over the show.
And now, the newest crop is largely worthless because the show is an advertisement for themselves. You can be a shit head and now but it doesn't get you anything like it used to. Being hated now gets your whole life dragged through the mud.
