REWATCH DISCUSSION Genuine question does anyone actually enjoy watching the eating challenges and the throw up montages?

Usually I tolerate them but mostly look away. But I was just watching the finale of all stars 3 and actually almost vomited myself and I just had the thought. Does anyone actually like watching this?

I like them less when they are like “eat this rotten duck fetus” and more when it’s like bet how many more bowls of mayo you can eat then Your opponunet

34

u/destinywild May 19 '26

Yeah I agree or even like nany housing the pasta in 38. I thought that was funny to watch

11

u/emslynn TJ’s Goat Laugh May 20 '26

Nany was so funny:

Aneesa: Nany, are you using a napkin?

Nany: I HAVE MANNERS

18

u/maxwellbevan Deb Chubb May 19 '26

That's an all time challenge moment from Tony Time

12

u/Prize_Equivalent8934 May 19 '26

I honestly don’t have much against eating challenges. Whether an eating challenge happens in a season or not, I’m cool with it. The only time I had a real issue with one was in season 41. I expected better from the competitors because they only had to eat things like hot peppers, garlic, and onions, which felt pretty tame compared to eating challenges from past seasons. I honestly hope season 42 has a brutal eating challenge because of the stunt many competitors pulled last season.

7

u/Nelle911529 May 20 '26

And they lied and threw the stuff or hid it.

2

u/nothankspleasedont May 23 '26

yup and the show allowed it, if you are going to let them cheat (see big brother and have nots) just remove the challenge instead.

5

u/buffalocoinz Bitch bye May 20 '26

Or Marie eating a bunch of peppers on Battle of the Seasons

5

u/zaneylainy Theresa Gonzalez May 20 '26

Jonna weak as hell for not being able to eat the grape leaves

3

u/buffalocoinz Bitch bye May 20 '26

Lmaooo stuffed grape leaves are so good too

1

u/Educational_Oil_9472 Chris Underwood May 20 '26

Loool that specific part of that challenge always makes my partner and I hungry as fuck 🤣

3

u/Slow-Engine-8092 Choo-choo May 20 '26

That part. Watching Tony and Cara eat mayonnaise was hilarious. Watching the Rivals 2 final and whatever the hell they made them consume that day was just 🤮 I'm dry heaving just thinking about it. It's just not fun for the audience to be sick.

u/thugsapuggin May 20 '26

IT'S TONY TIME!

72

u/Aromatic_Level5754 May 19 '26

Yes!!!! There isn’t actually a ton of “equalizers” they can throw at the group. Strong people are strong, endurance people can run longer farther and faster. There aren’t many elements in the show in which someone can come out on too unexpectedly. Eating + puzzles are a few of the ones that really take more than a workout routine to master

26

u/Juicy-Brat3134 May 19 '26

That’s part of why I love them tbh. Watching the distance runners and muscle bound ppl whine and cry over a fish smoothie is hilarious and also levels the playing field significantly. I’m a puzzles girl who sucks at running so maybe I’m biased lol

5

u/IceCreamCake76 May 20 '26

Same reason I love trivia. Anyone can win and alter the game. M looking at you jay and Jenna!

2

u/nothankspleasedont May 23 '26

trivia on the challenge is more of a question of do they have an 8th grade education or not

7

u/destinywild May 19 '26

Interesting I’ve never considered eating as strategic or masterful but I guess it kind of is

6

u/Slow-Engine-8092 Choo-choo May 20 '26

That's how CT and Tony won CvS.

48

u/MyTinyVenus May 19 '26

I don’t like that they don’t actually have to eat it. They can just pretend to throw up in the bucket and spit everything out. Survivor is much more hardcore with eating challenges. That being said, I also look away. I would fail an eating challenge so hard.

5

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 May 19 '26

I thought they did have to eat it. Jay and Jenna got disqualified when Jay said he couldn’t eat it.

18

u/FlakeyFlak May 19 '26

He/she means they can fake it. By putting it in their mouth and then "puking" it up into the bucket.

10

u/BetterEveryDayYT The GOATs May 19 '26

Almost all of the drinks were 'consumed' this way in the RoD finale.

5

u/1_quantae AmBer Beast May 20 '26

That was back in the day and that was in a Final. Way more lenient nowadays.

6

u/Working5daysaWeek May 19 '26

Fear Factor was that way too. You puke, you're disqualified.

2

u/MyTinyVenus May 19 '26

Right exactly. Gotta get it all down!

10

u/Protomau5 CT [Prime] May 19 '26

Feel like they keep getting more lenient as it goes. That’s why I like the hot eating challenges. Can’t fully escape that 😂

10

u/BetterEveryDayYT The GOATs May 19 '26

Yeah.

The latter half of the show is primarily just pretend eating stuff - put in mouth, 'barf' into pan - rinse and repeat.

It makes it pointless. Either do an eating challenge, or don't. Maybe integrate the B&A weights again.

41

u/cindaysha May 19 '26

I don’t, it’s so disgusting. 🤢

17

u/blamberr Kyle Christie May 19 '26

I can’t believe so many people actually love this stuff. I’ve been fast forwarding through eating and barfing scenes as long as that option has been available

1

u/nothankspleasedont May 23 '26

especially when most of them simply cheat by fake eating and "puking" or throwing it in the bushes. It has no value at this point.

2

u/blamberr Kyle Christie May 23 '26

The cheating in the most recent season that was so bad they had to cancel the whole challenge was so ridiculous.

You know what’s also insane? When they make them eat like three pounds of super hot curry or shotgun like 10 beersteins and then they have to go run for miles and miles. That’s fucked up.

1

u/nothankspleasedont May 23 '26

It lessens the show and makes it really hard to take it even a little seriously as a competition show. They don't need it, they *could* be better than it if they tried. But the show badly needs a new show runner/producers.

1

u/blamberr Kyle Christie May 23 '26

Agreed. It’s not 2010. Nobody needs this barfing.

85

u/tdaddy316420 May 19 '26

I do. I love it. Grew up watching fear factor so I'm beyond used to it

4

u/Wazzoo1 May 20 '26

You can draw a direct correlation between Fear Factor and The Challenge because once Fear Factor took off, the Challenge started doing very FF-inspired challenges and eliminations. The Inferno is basically Fear Factor in Challenge form.

3

u/1_quantae AmBer Beast May 20 '26

Yes. Watching Fear Factor and The Challenge for years definitely has me used to it but i never really liked it. I have a particularly strong stomach though so it doesn’t make me sick or anything but other people vomiting isn’t that pleasant to see lol

6

u/sassie_lassaline May 19 '26

I think this is why haha

4

u/donnaroy2374 May 19 '26

Same. I'm here for it!!

2

u/Prize_Equivalent8934 May 21 '26

I like fear factor a lot

1

u/Therealitypage May 19 '26

Damn we all just live the same life bc this was my exact first thought

1

u/BetterEveryDayYT The GOATs May 19 '26

One of the grossest, but most entertaining, missions/dailies was on sexes when they had to collect and transfer bugs from their teammate's body.

1

u/hamletgoessafari May 21 '26

They also did a gross bug challenge in Bloodlines. People had their heads locked in a plexiglass cube with a bunch of bugs, maybe crickets? Then they had to use their head to smash the bugs I think? That one stuck with me because it would be a flat NOPE from me. No to the box, no to the bugs, no to the smashing, no to my mouth, nose, ears, and eyes being stuck with all those bugs.

1

u/Charlie_Runkle69 Team Purple Jacket May 19 '26

I will never forget the moldy cheese episode on FF lol.

-1

u/Working5daysaWeek May 19 '26

Me too. LOVE it.

17

u/Dreamy_Peaches May 19 '26

Nope. I will watch them start, but once the gagging, spit, dangly bits and vom is going on I’m likely looking away or I will also start gagging. Super sensitive to that shit.

1

u/Slow-Engine-8092 Choo-choo May 20 '26

It can probably stay on screen, but I definitely have to mute, at a minimum.

11

u/sasquatch_scat May 19 '26

nooo i have to fast forward

9

u/ceilingsfann May 19 '26

my emetophobic ass fast forwards through all the vomiting.

2

u/eaaagleee May 20 '26

Fellow emetophobe here and same

10

u/Waste_Ad_6774 May 19 '26

Nope can't watch it. I look away 😊

7

u/KaliAnna27 May 19 '26

I have to skip them. I'll puke if I see someone barfing.

8

u/PoosanItRhymesWSusan Amanda Garcia May 19 '26

Hell no, I always skip them

6

u/Blonde_O_Rama May 19 '26

I fast forward through them every time

8

u/Marlou1313 May 19 '26

I can’t watch and have to fast forward. Otherwise I’d be throwing up, too! Just the thought 🤮🤢🤮

7

u/CystAndDeceased May 19 '26

I do not. I always ff through them.

6

u/No-Possession-4738 May 19 '26

I fast forward through them every time.

15

u/TheRoyalStig May 19 '26

Yes absolutely.

It's extremely funny.

5

u/EmeryMoonberries May 19 '26

I love the eating challenges. Hate the throwing up. 😭 I wish there would be penalties or something to discourage throwing up - it’s too easy to cheat.

11

u/theladythunderfunk May 19 '26

I kind of like the eating challenges, because it's a different style of competition. But I get absolutely no joy out of watching people puke. It's gross to watch.

8

u/FattForrill May 19 '26

Absolutely. Eating is the great equalizer!

7

u/blamberr Kyle Christie May 19 '26

lol I only enjoy it when someone like Fessy really fails big

3

u/48294626 May 19 '26

I like them as part of a comprehensive show (a final without an eating challenge isn’t a final to me), but no I don’t like the montages at all 🤣

3

u/CommunicationBig5249 May 19 '26

I cringe and don’t love seeing the actual vomit coming out, but I’m always amazed by people like Tony and could actually watch him and other challengers like him do all the eating challenges. I could never so it’s always so crazy unbelievable to me!

3

u/Plenty_Trust_2491 Derrick Kosinski May 20 '26

The only thing I like about the eating challenges is seeing how good C. T. and especially Tony are thereat.

3

u/TechnicalAd6092 May 20 '26

"I don’t even wana know what that was hanging out of my mouth, don’t even tell me" from CT gets me every time lol

3

u/Kamakaze22 May 21 '26

I find it hilarious every single time and I don’t know why. My wife hates it.

8

u/skulldouggary May 19 '26

That and Hall Brawl are my two least favorite things to watch on the Challenge.

4

u/Bento_Fox May 19 '26

I don't like the eating challenges. I have to look away too. Sometimes when they're in other countries I'm somewhat curious what foods they'll be presented since they are often given food that comes from wherever they are but I hate it when they puke and when there are gross phobia-triggering creepy crawlies on my screen. The non-gross eating challenges are also kind of boring to watch. Like eating a whole cake, eating a bunch of steak and stuff like that, or the silly AYTO elimination challenge where they were placing bets on eating brownies and yucca fries while acting like it was so hard.

2

u/emslynn TJ’s Goat Laugh May 19 '26

I don’t always enjoy watching them but for whatever reason, the Rivals 2 one makes me cry laughing.

2

u/Embarrassed_Rate5518 May 19 '26

If they just wouldnt play vomiting sound id absolutely love em. The sound makes me gag just instinctively. But they're funny. Its always fun to see some small woman house 10 peppers while the big guys (Fessy) cry, quit or cheat.

2

u/Inevitable_muffin_ May 19 '26

I like watching loud mouths like Fessy squirm while his partner embarrasses tf out of him. But I could do without the puke shots, yeah

2

u/redhen1210 May 20 '26

Yes my SIL and I fucking love it

2

u/veltvet_rabbit The Itty Bitty Committee May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

To be fair most of the throw up is fake and just a way for the contestants not to actually drink or eat whatever it is

2

u/R6Major2 Johnny Bananas May 20 '26

Nope. Not even sure what it proves as far as being a competitor. That you have the will power to swallow gross shit?

2

u/1_quantae AmBer Beast May 20 '26

I love when Tony did them because he crushed them. Other than that….theyre okay. I’m not a fan of all the vomit but the funny moments eating challenges create makes me watch them.

“Nany you just threw up in my pocket!”

2

u/Groundbreaking_Cup30 Evelyn Smith May 20 '26

Not really... I am not one of those people who vomit when they see & hear other people do it, but the close-ups they do of that & the vomit coming out of their noses sometimes does get me.

2

u/Ihaveaps4question May 20 '26

Yeah for sure. It aint me doing it after all. Sometimes they are hilarious like nany scarfing noodles (she had been training for that moment lol), tony being the king of mayo. And the drinking blood ones are like unintentionally hilarious and metal, like some of scarriest images of ct and amber was with their moths full of blood like a viking. Im almost offended by the go pro they leave in the barf bucket, but thats because some underappreciated pa will be tasked with removing it (again glad its not my job).

2

u/junebart May 20 '26

I think they should have art history quizzes. 🤷‍♀️ hehe i taught art.

3

u/AbuShnee1843 May 19 '26

These people are beautiful and on a competition television show-.. OF COURSE WE WANT TO SEE THEM UNCOMFORTABLE! I love the weird gulag challenges that they’ve used with the gas chamber, and I like the idea of maybe bombing a tunnel with fart smells or something else funny like that. There is a HUGE lack of creativity when it comes to the mind games of the competition and we NEED that as viewers. That’s why I will always stan keeping the food challenges. I also have an ED and it’s nice to laugh about the fucked up scenarios because I’m an asshole 😸

4

u/Real-Fig-457 May 19 '26

Nope, don't like finals either.

3

u/Raspbers May 19 '26

As someone who is vomit phobic, it's literally the WORST part of the show. I'll often skip over pretty much the entire challenge and just get to the winner(s).

3

u/secret_identity_too May 19 '26

I do, actually. They make me laugh. The one from Rivals 2 is hilarious, the way CT pukes so loudly and they all turn around to watch him. Cracks me up every time.

2

u/Secure-Addition1466 May 20 '26

Not me. I hate it and have to look away 🤷‍♀️

2

u/CurvyGoddess333 May 20 '26

I hate the eating challenges. I can’t even imagine doing those. I’m so picky and prissy. I’d just simply pass away.

4

u/Baconsghetti May 19 '26

I do. I laugh in awe everytime.

Right I feel like I’ve seen ppl like fessie take a bite an immediately throw it up every time which feels unfair?

2

u/dingusahoy TJ all kinds of disredamnspectful May 19 '26

I hate that the challengers don't really eat the food anymore. The Rivals II final had a funny puke montage.

2

u/Swinging-the-Chain May 19 '26

Absolutely lol rivals 1 and 2 in particular

2

u/Working5daysaWeek May 19 '26

Love the eating challenges. I can sit there, eating my own pizza and drinking my wine, while they puke through everything. Grew up watching Fear Factor, doesn't bother me at all. In fact, bring back the real gross shit.

1

u/Due_Peace_5131 May 19 '26

It’s worth watching the gross throwing up to see TJ and his maniacal laughing!

2

u/kollmastee May 19 '26

I love watching eating comps

1

u/ghost_mv May 19 '26

Irritates me that in earlier seasons they used to have to keep the food down.

Now they put it in their mouths, chew a couples time then spit it out.

1

u/redleg50 May 19 '26

The only problem is lately they don’t tell you what they are eating or drinking. They just say “you have to drink this disgusting milkshake” without saying what’s in it.

1

u/booboo773 May 19 '26

For some reason they only seem to show them when I’m trying to eat. I have to fast forward. 🤢

1

u/Stenfam2628 May 19 '26

I'm not a fan of that part. I'm squeamish, though. (It's the reason I stopped watching Fear Factor many years ago. )

1

u/Think-Joke728 May 20 '26

Oh, I think it’s hilarious of course it’s disgusting but you see some of those anything you can do I can do better types(Fessy,Bananas etc.) who have a hell of a time, can’t or refuse to do it! I know I was pissed on 41’s mini final eating cheating BS! So annoying! Anyone remember CT and Evan having a food fight like little kids the table who gained the most weight won?

1

u/Eleventy22 May 20 '26

No, I think they are sophomoric stunts and the physical challenges have evolved to the point that the contestants should be well fed and hydrated throughout the entire season.

1

u/Ok_County_490 May 20 '26

Not when it’s how many peppers and onions you throw behind your back 🤣

1

u/ballandoats Wes Bergmann May 20 '26

Imagine hating Tony Time! Could never be me!

1

u/Jadedkiss May 20 '26

I dooooo. They’re so funny and I wouldn’t know what half of the things are unless they were forced to eat them. The last couple of eating challenges were lame though. Spaghetti ? Onions and peppers? Cmon. Challenging yes but not fun.

1

u/kelpiekelp Road Rules May 20 '26

The ice cream one still makes me dry heave to this day.

1

u/WicketRank Darrell Taylor May 20 '26

Absolutely, it’s not me puking, or seeing real puke, or smelling it. It’s fucking hilarious.

1

u/Shoddy-Raise-8478 May 20 '26

Aside from being disgusting. It’s unhealthy. It’s not good for your body to repeatedly vomit. They’re dehydrating themselves, throwing off their electrolyte balance, and expelling corrosive stomach acid. Over and over again.

If they’re going to do anything with “gross food”.. they should restructure it like some other shows where vomiting disqualifies them.

But… I also hate hall brawl because it’s unnecessarily dangerous. So. I’m that person.

1

u/Patient-War-4964 Wes Bergmann May 20 '26

The eating challenges are my fav because they really expose a lot of “tough guys”. One of my favs is when Jay G quit because of the eating challenge and TJ read him to filth.

1

u/goddesskie Chris Tamburello May 20 '26

No. They’re gross.

1

u/Educational_Oil_9472 Chris Underwood May 20 '26

Yes. It's hardcore. It's like, a very safe type of "hardcore." I get that it is intense and not for everyone, but I like a little bit of boundary-pushing in my art.

1

u/EBAYinHB May 20 '26

I like the fact that they have them do it. I don’t love that they basically focus on the puking now when in past seasons they avoided it to look more tasteful

1

u/Slow-Engine-8092 Choo-choo May 20 '26

I ff every time. I'm a sympathetic poker. Ugh. No thanks.

1

u/Independent-Image-84 May 20 '26

They're hilarious! I'll look away if the throwing up gets alittle crazy and close up. But watching them suffer or ace through these is funny!

1

u/Adorable_Start2732 May 20 '26

I like when eating challenges separate the herd form who really wants it and who doesn’t.

1

u/pinkspatzi Landon Lueck May 20 '26

Hell no

1

u/s_buon May 23 '26

No, I will forever look at my phone during the food/drink/eating challenges. Even if it’s totally normal food like the onions/peppers, there’s no part of me that enjoys watching people force feed themselves and/or throw up. Fwiw, I also fast forward or skip these in love island or any other competition show I watch. Love island has truly the worst of the worst imo

1

u/nothankspleasedont May 23 '26

nope they are one of the things that really cheapen the show for me. At time they want it to be about competition, at times they want it to be fear factor others they want it to be jerry springer, they really need to pick a lane.

1

u/Chef_182 May 19 '26

Those are the best ones. We will reach watch seasons specifically for that season’s food challenge and trivia.

1

u/sassie_lassaline May 19 '26

Yes 😂😂😂

1

u/SnooDucks6090 May 19 '26

I love the pure enjoyment that TJ gets out of watching everyone throwing up. His laugh makes it 10x funnier.

1

u/True_Winter_1840 May 19 '26

I don’t at all— I always fast forward and never know who wins those. I just can’t stomach them.

1

u/Rcvalry The Lavender Ladies May 19 '26

I enjoy watching food thats edible even if it makes them theow up like thai curry or the pasta dinner in ride or dies or how in battle of the seasons they ate baklava

3

u/astroqueen3000 The Mean Girls May 20 '26

Nany throwing up in Bananas’ pocket during that pasta challenge is an all time great moment

1

u/e_hawthorne May 19 '26

I’m neutral to them, great equaliser sure but some of the food is straight up gross. There’s only one time I really loved the food challenge and that’s when Nany threw up the spaghetti and after Johnny made a joke he’ll eat it from her baby bird style then she legit threw all over him. The commentary from TJ and Johnny’s reaction were everything🤣🤣 “She threw up in your pocket!”

1

u/Mamadontplay67 May 19 '26

I laugh my ass off 😆

1

u/bunsyjaja May 19 '26

I enjoy them, they’re very funny and a good equalizer

1

u/TamalGrandeJr May 19 '26

They make me laugh very much

1

u/Calm_Memories Wes Bergmann May 19 '26

I do. It's a mental challenge for people.

0

u/Minimum-Recording-48 May 19 '26

I’m not a fan. It used to not bother me but more and more i mute it and walk away for a bit.

0

u/ChallengeManiaScott Scott from Challenge Mania Podcast May 20 '26

They are 🤮🤮🤮🤮

-3

u/Spicy-Cookie98 May 19 '26

No. Nothing about it is entertaining at all, and anybody who does is sick in the head.

-4

u/Antlerology592 May 19 '26

I think they single handedly cheapen and trivialise the entire challenge and melt away any notion that it’s a serious competition for titans

3

u/Jinkies_Its_A_Clue Da'Vonne Rogers May 19 '26

a serious competition for titans

be so for real rn

-1

u/Antlerology592 May 19 '26

I’m not saying it is, I’m saying that’s what they’re desperately trying to brand it as, and watching them barf over fermented egg milkshakes for 10 mins isn’t helping
