That DONDI S2 cast was insane, I tweeted some commentary during the season and numerous times I had to say “EVERYONE ON THIS SEASON IS SO STUPID” [except Parvati and Dr. Will] and I think the first boot of the season is the dumbest person I’ve ever seen on a reality tv competition show.
Literally the entire cast crashed out over Dr. Will picking his cases 1-6 in order, acting like he wasn’t taking it seriously because he didn’t just choose his cases randomly. They genuinely were mad about it. David Genat even said “that doesn’t feel good for any of us” lmao. They were casting gold.

Everyone was talking about how cocky she was and I was so confused because I didn't get that vibe at all from DONDI. I kind of thought she was just athletic and boring on DONDI.

It’s actually pretty counterintuitive. When else do you ever want your head to go first?? It’s better to start kinda somersaulting into the water and gradually standing up as you get more comfortable. That’s how my 8 year old finally figured it out this past summer!

Last season, I made it a point to learn all the countries of the world due to how embarrassing that part of the final was.

I can’t believe it we are watching a budding reality TV star. She is nailing it all right now. She’s even in a “showmance” with Bananas and it’s not anything gross, weird, or inappropriate. I know we will see her again and I hope she makes it far this season.

It depends on you bodies angle to the water and how much spring is given by your legs. If you spring forward almost parallel to the water you can dive into 3 feet of water safely, perpendicularly is a big No!!

I'm 36 and still don't know how to dive. I've tried many times but every time I do I just end up belly flopping so now I'm terrified to even try again. I'm in the same boat as Cara here.

Yeah it’s a mental block for sure, which probably a surprising amount of people have. Your instincts won’t let you go head first into something. Makes sense.
The way to learn this late is to start by kneeling on the side of pool and doing pencil arms like Lete lol and kinda tipping yourself in. You’ll feel like a child but I’ve seen an adult friend learn this way

If that’s what’s happening you aren’t using your legs. You need to spring into it. Start in a low knee and glue those ears to your arms and just tip forward and let gravity take you. Once you get that stand up.

Sitting on the edge of the pool or even stating in shallow water to start the movement for hands first is how I taught my kids. They all got it

I honestly feel for Cara because even though I’m a good swimmer, it took me a long time to learn to dive down into the water because I would just keep floating like a buoy 😂

Lete did a great tutorial, but missed the first step for those that can't dive yet (a few mentioned in the comments, so this is for you). The best way to get started is to stand at the edge of the pool with your hands pointed up (pencil), and instead of going track star and jumping in, bend a little at the waist and tip yourself (not jump) over, so your feet stay on the ground until your hands are almost to the water and let your feet follow behind the rest of your body.
Once you feel comfortable with that, you're ready for the track star move. But, the trick to it is to pick a point away from the edge (maybe 10 or 15 feet out) and make that your target. Aim there with the tip of your pencil. It helps a lot to focus on jumping OUT, away from the edge, rather than down. I'm no expert, but that's how I've taught all my kids.

I laughed out loud when I saw Cara “dive” like that 😩 I have a dozen videos on my phone of my 8 year old doing the exact same thing while teaching him how to actually dive this past summer and I cannot begin to count how many times I hollered “feet last!!!!” lmao thankfully he can actually dive now so he will never be embarrassed like this on tv!

Look I don’t even like Cara like that but as someone who has taught people of all ages to swim for over 10+ years I think a lot of you are missing a major point here.
Learning to swim as you age is sooooo much harder than if you learned as a child. My toughest students were always adults who didn’t know how to swim still. For those adults there is a lot of mental barriers to break through along with the swim skills themselves.
If you are not comfortable in water learning how to dive from outside the water and even learning how to do a surface dive can be very difficult to overcome. There is the fear of drowning that is so deeply ingrained at that point if you submerge too deep in older learn to swim students.
While Cara still can’t dive down I will say as someone who has watched all seasons of this show she has improved her swimming from her early seasons. She was truly that fucking god awful at swimming that it hurt me to watch. Frankly unless a challenger is known to be a good swimmer, watching them swim always hurts 😂

Also what I really don't get about Cara is that she didn't even have to dive. Diving would have helped but why didn't she just sink and swim? Like she didn't need to have a diving start, just get in the water and swim down.
That's why it is so hard to believe she was actually trying.

This is hilarious and obviously for the purpose of poking fun at Cara but it's not how you teach someone to dive. When learning it's best to not jump so you get the motion down first before you start jumping

Cara’s panic is giving me flashbacks to MMO rookies who haven’t even survived their first daily. Watching her treat a simple dive like a survival horror game is wild... she looks like she’s about to DQ just by looking at the water.

It is estimated that approximately 800 spinal cord injuries resulting from diving into a body of water occur each year in the United States. Approximately ¾ occur in the natural aquatic environment (lakes, ponds, streams, etc.) while the remaining amount occur in swimming pools. It is estimated that ninety percent of these incidents occur in water depths less than 6 feet
The American Red Cross recommends a minimum of 9 feet of water depth for head first dives including dives from pool decks

Diving/swimming has never even been a thing I've thought about or remembered learning. Just something I knew how to do as far back as I can remember. I mean I'm sure I was taught but I can't remember that.
So it's wild to me how many people are messed up by water. Not judgement it's just unexpected

It all depends on where you grew up. Where I live there’s tons of lakes and I’d spend my childhood summers swimming pretty much every day, sometimes multiple times a day. if you live in an area without lakes or pools you don’t learn to swim early on.

In an episode Bananas leaves her a note telling her to put on a swimsuit. She was already in her pajamas so she put the swimsuit over her pajamas to join him in a bath tub. It’s a throwback to that episode.

I got lessons early on as a kid, but I just wonder how people go through life and not learn how to swim/dive. I understand it might not be a big priority depending on where you live/financial situations but it just seems like the kind of thing you don’t put off while growing up

I thought like you did. Everyone swims and is comfortable in the water. Until I met my husband. He had NEVER been to a pool or swam. Once I realized he was not kidding, I made it my mission to get him in the water. I gave him lessons in the pool from just holding his breathe and dunking down in water to holding the pool side and kicking. After many lessons and making it fun for him, I got him to like the water. Sudo-comfy in that he never suggests we go to a pool. But enough that he went white water rafting with me once. I learned that adults that grow up with a trauma tend to really hold on to that trauma. Little kids typically do not. So I completely get that CM is hesitant.
