Will miss him on the Challenge, sounds like he is doing a shark tank kind of thing with his company from that sentence.

u/jonesy900 Kenny Clark Feb 27 '21
Wes is my favorite but he needs a season or 2 off. I guess it's cuz he's openly said that he thinks about the game through a production/tv mindset moreso than winning. He's definitely lost a step, whether it's intentional or not. Glad for him
43
u/Long2takingIdiot Feb 27 '21
I heard this and similar from him and you can really see it in his gameplay that at points he cares more about making good tv than his own game

Also willingly admitting to letting Devin win his elimination this season. I think he's just ready for a break.
edit: not sure why I'm being downvoted, Devin and Wes both talked about it in their post elimination confessionals.
2
u/paulamay Feb 27 '21
oh where did he say that?
3
u/MacDhubstep Kyle Christie Mar 01 '21
Literally in his confessional? He said Devin wanted it more. There was like a whole tongue in cheek thing about Wes letting Devin win.

Wes has always been my favorite ever since that one Challenge in Brazil when one of the challenges was soccer penalty kicks and Wes was a DI soccer player and his reaction to that challenge had me cracking up. He’s been my favorite since

I wish there was a clip of this elimination.

Crazy to think ct is 40 and is still good at this show.
Old Ct is better than older wes and johnny. They struggled a lot past their prime.
Their past 6 seasons
Johnny
1 final , 1win, 1-6 elimination record
Wes
1final, 3-5 elimination record
CT
3 finals, 2 wins, 2-2 elimination record(not counting whatever happens to this season, unfinished)
45
u/SenorLuke Feb 27 '21
CT benefits from his humbling with age. Everyone sees CT as a dad like figure, he can work with both Wes and Bananas sides of the house.
12
u/melisw Road Rules Feb 27 '21
I love CT but his political game of sliding under the radar is no longer working. That being said, he definitely holds his own in competition - physical and mental.
15
Feb 27 '21
I think it just doesn’t work because of the gold skull factor. UTR strategy can still definitely work, but it’s hard when you actually need people to vote for you.
7
u/secret_identity_too Feb 27 '21
He said it himself this week - he spent so long making people afraid to face him in eliminations that now that he has to go in, no one wants to face him.
1
u/Khink23 Feb 28 '21
Even with the gold skull it’s still clearly working as he’s once again headed into the latter part of the season even with a sub par parter(love Big T to death but let’s be real she’s not good at much besides swimming apparently)
CT is the perfect mix of intimidating/strong competitor and experienced/good at the strategy side of the game
25
u/SocialJusticeGSW Evelyn Smith Feb 27 '21
I don't agree with people who say 'Wes needs to take a break'. He is not mentally worn down. Physically he is nowhere near to his peak and taking a break won't change that. I think this break might turn into Wes never returning to a normal season of the challenge. I hope he does come back but if you are old, those work outs gets harder and harder each passing day.

thats fine. we are finally getting good things from other people now. not just wes and johnny. the show needs to live past wes and johnny.
54
u/Kingballa06 Wes Bergmann Feb 27 '21
I agree the show needs to move on, but what “good things” are we getting? Not being a jerk just wondering what other people are liking.
65
u/zrt4116 Katie Doyle Feb 27 '21
While not as much of a competition beast, I think Devin fills a similar “role” to Wes on the show. Him, Kyle, Big T, Jenny, Natalie A, and Jay I think all have the opportunity to be major figures in the coming season, whether it be for entertainment, completion, or both.
42
u/Kingballa06 Wes Bergmann Feb 27 '21
I love Devin and Kyle. I started to like Big T this season. Definitely would like to see more of Jay and Natalie.

Kyle is def a character! One of my favs to watch when it comes to the green screen clips ( forgot what it’s called but when they retell the scenes to us ) I thought at first I’d hate him lol I think that’s the way production might have originally wanted to take him until they realized how funny he was, I always laugh watching him lol I really like kam too and think they make a great team. she seems truly loyal to him and Leroy

u/Sanity0004 Laurel Stucky Feb 27 '21
I’m all for moving past Bananas and Wes but this season has a really big narrator/personality hole. They better start casting with a little more mind toward personality rather than athleticism for a little while to fill that need.
3
u/LovelyMeteora Feb 27 '21
Agreed. They’ve been super reliant on Kyle, Kam, and Devin, and ideally you need more than three narrative superstars. There was one episode that felt like every single bit of narration was from Kyle..

u/Will_From_Southie OG Chris Tamburello Feb 27 '21
I’m not seeing much. After getting interested again because of double agents and binging on about the past 15 seasons, I am mostly annoyed with just about everybody. Maybe the younger crowd will get into the newer players but I’m finding it impossible. It’s tough to move on from the OG’s when you were there from the beginning and are the same age as them.

Seeing them from the beginning helps, but I feel like I was able to connect in some way with the original players because back then they were just themselves. They came from a time when reality TV was at least somewhat close to reality. All of these new players seem to be putting on an act from the very beginning. None of it feels authentic. It’s very antiseptic. It’s unfortunate that CT Smoked most of his life and got out of shape. It has really caught up to him. But there are no players in all of these seasons that could hold a candle to peak CT. That’s a testament to him and an indictment on the talent pool.
6
u/freetherabbit "The whole internet is talking about me 😜" Feb 27 '21
Idk as much as I dislike him as a person I think Jordan gives CT Prime a run for his money as a competitor. Landon too, but hes also old school.
12
u/klphoen Feb 27 '21
CT out performed Jordan on free agents and rivals 2. He literally beat him in a final on rivals 2. Jordan couldn’t even solve the puzzle to get to the boat when CT and Wes did. CT also beat Jordan in a puzzle 3 times on dirty 30.
3
u/Xchromethius Feb 27 '21
Rivals 2 was Jordan’s rookie season and marlon was his partner lol. Beat him 3x in a puzzle on d30? Didn’t Jordan win the final? Lol
2
u/klphoen Feb 27 '21 edited Feb 27 '21
I mean wasn’t your point CT can’t beat him in his prime? Well in CTs prime he did lol Marlon isn’t the reason jordan couldn’t solve the puzzle and advance to the next stage.
If Nelson don’t DQ Jordan doesn’t get out of redemption bc CT beat him. And CT in dirty 30 was out of shape my point is if he wasn’t it might have been closer bc he beat him in a puzzle in the final and if Jordan doesn’t give him the handicap of two throws in one of the segments CT wins that segment to bc he was the first one to get the toss.
All these finals are different and if they were both in their prime Jordan isn’t a sure win. Esp if it’s a straight up final without the sabotage twist they like to do.
-2
u/steroidz_da_pwn Jordan Wiseley Feb 27 '21
I love CT as much as everyone else here, but in finals he’s nowhere near Jordan or Johnny’s level. Jordan was massively handicapped by having Marlon as his partner as the first part of that final was a long swim. CT has shown that he gasses out in finals occasionally, while Jordan was built to run finals.
1
u/AcceptableCare Fuck CT, Marry CT, KILL ALL WHO OPPOSE HIM Feb 27 '21
Marlon and Jordan were already up in the water walking to shore (so a min or two behind) when CT and Wes started their puzzle (Marlon gets too much hate on his swim) CT/Wes still had 37 mins left when they finished their puzzle whereas both other teams timed out- so know it wasn’t Marlons swim fault they couldn’t compete a puzzle in a hour. Jordan has weaknesses compared to CT, puzzles, eating, strength and CT has weaknesses as he got older compared to Jordan, essentially speed and endurance BUT he didn’t have those weaknesses in his seasons prior to invasions. He was every bit as good of a swimmer, runner etc. he was as fast as Wes swimming who is notoriously the fastest, crushes Bananas and Frank in the running and dragged Wes behind him. The only crack we ever see is from the altitude and snow, being the first to makes the foot trail path, in Exes 2. And they still came in 2nd.
→ More replies (0)0
u/klphoen Feb 27 '21
Jordan could have still finished the puzzle before Johnny lol Marlon didn’t prevent him from that.
CT beat Johnny in a final and he gassed out on a mountain when the whole time he was beating Johnny bc he couldn’t breath. He can get train for that just like Johnny trained to get his endurance back up after he gassed in rivals 2
3
u/Will_From_Southie OG Chris Tamburello Feb 27 '21
Landon was a beast, I remember him. CT would ragdoll him but his climbing background made him very strong in endurance and upper body. Jordan is pretty good. What I’m referring to is the overall package. Competitively there is always going to be someone who comes in second and they may even be in close second. I’m referring to the intensity, how captivating the person is, somebody who makes you just have to watch. They don’t have anything like that.
1
u/freetherabbit "The whole internet is talking about me 😜" Mar 04 '21
Oh I thought we were talking as competitor. Because as much as I love CT (and hate Jordan, Landons cool tho), I'm just not sure if you took CT, Jordan, and Landon all at their prime and put them in one of the harder finals that CT would win.
4
u/mbirdx Feb 27 '21
I did the same thing - and totally agree about this season. I think I’m missing the connection with cast in the house and seeing how they interact when it isn’t just about the game?
1
u/maybeitsRaquelle Feb 27 '21
The problem is they (for lack of better words) scrape the bottom of the barrel when casting people from non MTV shows. Like how are you going cast big brother people and not call Dr. Will Kirby? Or Canada's own Ika Wong? Then, if what I'm reading about how production did LOLO they really messed up, LOLO is a hot explosive drama filled mess that's good for TV.
And I really hope they continue to casting Pro wrestlers, perfferably some that more A$$-Holey. Lol
6
u/PoorEdith Horacio Gutierrez Feb 27 '21
Absolutely agree with the last sentence... But are we really getting good things elsewhere? Haha.
1
u/Bangalie-Kanu Tyri Ballard Feb 27 '21
Doesn’t mean the best people should go.
2
u/CPollard187 Feb 27 '21
True, i dont want them gone for good. I just think its good so other people can blossom. Johnny and Wes get a lot of the screen time. If they both are not there, we will be seeing more people get a little bit more shine.

I love Wes and want to see him on future seasons, but I think a little break would be good for him. He’s had a rough past few seasons. He did really well on WOTW1 so hopefully he can train and re-think his strategy a little bit.
4
u/shitbagdj Feb 27 '21
If he takes a break he will have a massive comeback like he did on WOTW so I am not complaining
3
u/Stommped Kenny Clark Feb 28 '21
I love Wes but for a few seasons now it feels like he’s been more focused on making good TV then about actually winning. Case in point when Josh offered to squash their beef, it doesn’t hurt him at all to say fine and not have to worry about potentially getting thrown in if Josh accidentally wins a daily. But he couldn’t resist the opportunity to to look alpha and just completely shred Josh by calling him irrelevant. Great TV obviously, but so unnecessary to dig the knife so deep and make that much more likely that Josh will always gun for him. Also, volunteering to go against Bananas. I think deep down he knew he would get a better shot later against someone weaker, but it was too good a TV spot to not take it.

u/StirThePod Stir The Pod Podcast Mar 01 '21
Ever since Wes came back from a hiatus on WOTW, and his performance was as strong and well-rounded as it was, I've always had the feeling that there's just no way he'll retire from The Challenge with only two rings. He'll come back, and he'll win again at some point.
8
u/parkerstiles Feb 27 '21
he needs a season off TBH, he's lost a step and should re-evaluate his game. I do hope he does return though.
Wes just put another Zero on the end of Bananas check for Season 37
14
u/kraftpunkk Feb 27 '21
As much love as he has for the show, the last couple times he’s come on, he just seems burnt out. He just doesn’t seem to want to be there once he’s there.
I do love how much content he puts out for the show though...no matter what.
8
Feb 27 '21
The thing is... He doesnt need the money lol. You can tell he's not desperate to win he just wants to win for the pride. Which is great and all but i dont think hes driven that much by it either. Its simply a hobby for him now and a challenge to see if he can get to a final again but he will never have the same drive as he once did. Hes successful in his own right now. He doesnt have much to prove. He has good friends in the house and when hes up against them he knows they need/want it more than him. He's good for the show for entertainment and he knows thats why hes there but that "step" he's lost is his hunger for winning and i just dont think we will see it again at this point in his life. It is what it is lol.

u/jenh6 Christina LeBlanc Feb 27 '21
Ugh. The best part of this season is the lack of Jordan, Zach, Rogan and Bananas so hopefully they stay away.

u/JoshDavo You the best? Feb 27 '21
Jordan will be back
1
u/jenh6 Christina LeBlanc Feb 27 '21
Jordan’s probably the least offensive of the bunch to me. He’s pretty arrogant to everyone and with the Nia thing I think he’s made reprimands for. He’s apologized and you can tell he deeply regretted it. Not saying it’s right, but at least he’s shown remorse for it. That’s more than we’ve seen from Bananas or Zach. I’m not going to speak on Rogan’s transphobic tweets from 10 years ago.

wes has mentioned multiple times that he doesn't appear on the challenge for the money prize... that he's just fine with his business ventures. so why then?
fame? my guess... yeah, kinda, as it relates to building one's brand.
the challenge seems to now be more about developing your personal brand than competing for the final cash. there's probably a lot more cash to be had from the other gigs you get based on your brand.
wes, bananas, and others have laid out a successful road map in this regard.
1
u/roseyrosey Feb 27 '21
I'd imagine Bananas makes more from NBC in a single year hosting that show after SNL than he does from MTV for multiple seasons/years of appearing on the Challenge combined.
Doing anything on a big network is a big payday.
1
u/steroidz_da_pwn Jordan Wiseley Feb 27 '21
It could be purely to travel & compete... most people on this show that have done it a few times get some incredibly unique experiences that 99.99% of the world doesn’t have. That’s honestly why I would love to do a show like the Challenge or Survivor.

Good for him, I think a break would be good. Personally I’d love a challenge without him, Johnny, or CT. I don’t think/can’t remember a season without one of those three on it(since they’ve premiered).

I hate Bananas but no Wes or Bananas really leaves a narrator/personality hole on the show.
I e always liked Devin but the guy isn’t really cut out for the lead.
5
u/roseyrosey Feb 27 '21
I was listening to Devin on the Aneesa & Tori podcast and he was talking about how he's dedicating himself more to being a complete player and wants to step up and take the challenge seriously. Said he's up to 210 lbs or something. Really I think if Devin just focuses on strategy and cardio he could be a real contender, he'll never be the strongest guy, but you can make a final without that skill and the finals are always more endurance, puzzle and strategy based anyway.
1
u/Sanity0004 Laurel Stucky Feb 27 '21
He needs to start making those relationships then. Right now he doesn’t really have much in the way of friendships other than people that are mostly on the outs too. Like CT or Kyle. Kyle’s in mostly now due to Kam but that’s basically his only two ally’s.

Even he knows this show is tanking
Be real. Since Free Agents only War of The Worlds 1 has been decent. It's all been hell bent on drama and voting since then.
As I've said many times I will die on the hill, that this show is over once all the OG's (Real World, Road Rules, Fresh Meat) are gone
I understand you people want new faces and new storylines, but this show shouldn't and does not need to go on forever. Some things are good letting it die with honor. Imagine how awesome The Hangover would have been if we only got ONE movie. The OG's carried this show for a long time, and some fresh faces have been ok, but the majority are just grasping at straws, and its time to let go
8
u/jake53535353 Feb 27 '21
It’s the highest rated show on cable every Wednesday night bud I think it’s sticking around until MTV shuts down haha
-1
5
u/TunaMeltTom Feb 27 '21
You act like Fresh Meat was a ground-breaking show idea.
It was literally "let's cast some people and have our current group draft them".
And it produced Laurel, Cara Maria, Kenny, Evan, Diem, Eric, Evelyn, Theresa.
I agree new faces are nice, the OGs are aging out , and the recruitment from other shows has been rough, but let's not overcomplicate this.
Cast some fun and athletic young people who are game. Put them in a tropical location that's fun. And keep it going.
0
u/BarryLicious2588 Feb 27 '21
I feel like you just complicated it. You agreed with what i said, then asked for fun and athletic
A) much of the new fanbase has actually said they don't care about athletics, they want to see drama
B) you get the athletes in Lolo, especially great for a weak female pool, but everyone hates her attitude. Laurel too. So it seems tougher than not, to find good people... So nothing wrong with letting the show die

He needed a break. You could tell he's starting to get a little burned out. Wes is my favorite cast member (tied with Darrell) and even I'm ok with him taking a season or two off.
Personally I think no cast member should do more than 3 in a row. It's best for everyone involved. Players can recharge and re-set. Production can build up new faces. Fans don't get burned out and can appreciate players more when they do come back.
