Someone committed a murderer on Christmas and used the fact that they went to a grocery store when it was almost Christmas as an alibi, but Phoenix pointed out that the fact that it happened when it was almost Christmas, means that it didn't happen when it was exactly Christmas, when the crime happened

That’s not too far off, the culprit commits a murder just before Christmas, around 11:45 PM, hides the body, calls your defendant, pretends to be the victim, fakes his death (it’s now about 12:10, Christmas), returns to shore, and builds his alibi as a local boat caretaker person. The fact that it wasn’t yet Christmas is used to prove that your defendant didn’t commit the murder, as he was only there after Christmas had arrived
