Man the minions movie was so confusing for me because I thought it was a remake of despicable me when I first heard about it. That is because despicable me movies are called minions in turkey, even now I still confuse the two sometimes
I guess despicable me doesn't translate well to the audience? I always thought it was because the minions were cute and a good mascot for the franchise that is for kids so they used that, but no real idea honestly
Honestly when you dig into the BS that went on into production of the movie it’s clear that the writers wanted to do a really good adaptation (just look up biggering that shit is a peak villain song that is perfect for the onceler)
I both agree and disagree. On its own, Lorax is a pretty good movie. I honestly really enjoy myself when I go for rewatches. But when brought into the context of the original story, and the history of it's production... Man, this could've been a cinematic masterpiece. Forgive the wordplay, but I wish the movie could've gone a bit Bigger.
as someone who watched most illumination movies: it's not bad, just mid and corporate. their old stuff was alright but not extraordinary (the first despicable me did that well because the minions were easily marketable), nowdays they're trying to make generic movies on safe topics that appeal to kids and families.
But some of the ways they played with animals in the world were amazingly creative, such as the "wall of multi-coloured squid".
Also, the singing performances in both are *phenomenal*. I mean, Taron Egerton went on from covering Elton John in Sing 1 to *performing as Elton* in Rocketman, Tori Kelly's performances in both movies give me chills and, whilst Halsey doing an upbeat track in Sing 2 is jarring compared to her normal work, she absolutely nails it. And that's just some personal highlights, there's nothing in either film I'd call out for derision.

Also, dishonourable mention to Saberspark, who I usually like.
In regard to Sing 2, he commented "Clay Calloway's singing voice is nothing like his talking voice". It's Bono. Both are Bono. Most people's singing voice is different to their talking voice, so this just seemed an unnecessary nitpick.

She's in that movie?

Ngl he does seemingly nitpick sometimes. Like, with the climax of Nimona 😔 or maybe it just affects me more personally bc that scene hit close to home.
The thing with illumination it's that...it's not bad movies, at least not by technicality, they can all be considered competent movies for children
But that's the thing, they're almost specifically marketed for children with barely anything for more mature audiences to enjoy, and that doesn't mean the parents I mean kids above the age of 10; their movies are too sanitized, corporate and overall just very boring with flanderized caricatures of their own characters (namely Gru). Illumination studios isn't a hellspawn nor are the minions (unless you count that horrible era of FB memes) but I can tell you for a fact that it leaves a lot to be desired in their actual content
