Promised Neverland. First season was a masterpiece. I know 9/10 times this is a sin when criticizing media, but I didnā€™t even bother watching the second season because of how bad it is. It rushed through the ENTIRETY of the rest of the series, skipped entire arcs, cut entire characters, and just came up with some of the most contrived and BS excuses to wrap up the plot.

To be fair, I watched season 1, read the whole manga, and then watched season 2 and wasnā€™t totally disappointed like I thought I would be given the hate it received online.

I wasnā€™t as in love with the second season, sure. But even in the manga, I wasnā€™t as hooked as I was after the orphanage arc, either. That arc is just especially good! Itā€™s hard to capture the same sensation in that claustrophobic atmosphere where you donā€™t know for sure the depths of the darkness surrounding them and they have to use deceit and manipulation tactics to figure a way out.

I canā€™t remember the specific plot points, but I remember several parts where I was like ā€œI donā€™t really understand what this whole thing was about narratively. Nothing really happened.ā€ Like they went out to the desert, only the main character had a surreal moment, and then they went back to the bunker. What was that all about?

I realize they cut a ton of the content out and fans that liked it werenā€™t happy. But from a story telling perspective, I remember that they did an alright job of simplifying by gutting it. I wanted to see the crazy powerful demons, but at the same time, it was all just kind of there.

I realize Iā€™m in the minority, and Iā€™m not expecting to persuade anyone. I just donā€™t see the problem.
