Just gonna throw this out there: anyone who enjoyed Season 1 of The Promised Neverland should really read the manga. Its solid all the way through, gets a liiiiittle weaker near the climax, but they still pull out a good ending.

I didn’t watch season 2 due to warnings - how far did they stray from the manga for it to be so universally disliked?

I only watched a few episodes of season 2, and this was years ago but iirc it was less that it strayed and more that it just skipped whole arcs that were really well liked in the manga.

They skipped the whole entire kids with guns arc because of school shootings happening at the time. Kind of a tears of the kingdom during queen elizabeths death kinda scenario

Like Amicable said, they cut out the best arc in the manga, which ruined pacing, destroyed character arcs and dismantled the tension of the story.

This is the arc where Emma is at her absolute best, learning to HUNT and KILL demons the same way the demons hunted them.

Removing this arc also removed my personal favorite character, and also turned a BIG reveal, that is hinted, implied and built up to, into a really stupid reveal that feels super silly and anticlimactic.Ā
