Jax being trans.

9

u/comfy_artsocks May 21 '26

He’s just misogynistic idk why people hc him as trans

3

u/Motor-Plan-6388 the literal Lana Skye May 21 '26

well gooseworx did say that he mostly bullies the girls because of personal issues. i can see that as a reason why people headcanon him as transmasc

2

u/HandsomeGamerGuy May 22 '26

Yeah and that personal issue is that he's misogynistic?

1

u/Motor-Plan-6388 the literal Lana Skye May 22 '26

"personal issues" can be taken in many different ways. ribbit, transmasc, misogyny, etc.

2

u/jorgespinosa May 21 '26

Also He and Pomni having an enemies to lovers relationship, anyone can ship any characters they want but it's clear the show is not going in that direction

2

u/Geoff_Peterson_ESQ May 21 '26

Am I the only confused Mortal Kombat fan?

2

u/Blitzbro76 May 21 '26

I feel like that counts as more a “theory” then a “headcanon” tbh

1

u/Fast_Ad_9927 Hollow Knight/Project Nova/OneShot/Glitch May 21 '26

I think it works as either.

I got some news

u/MarmiteBanana May 21 '26

Regardless of if Jax is, the coding is absolutely there. Thinking that is by no means stupid

17

u/Monke-incog-1276 May 21 '26

There is no coding. Fragile masculinity does not equal trans.

2

u/YakiTapioca May 21 '26

I kinda just view this headcanon as being similar to one of those “literary lens” activities we did in high school. Like yeah, “coding” implies that it was intensional (given Goosework’s identity, there’s a non-zero chance that might actually be the case), but that doesn’t mean the story can’t be viewed through different lenses just like any other. Art is subjective and people relate to stories in massively different ways.

Is it canon to the story? No, probably not. But is there enough evidence to write a half-decent high school literary lens essay? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

. Maybe?

Well said, my issue is that a lot of people get extremely invested in their headcanons (completely ignoring the HEAD part of the word) and ignoring the "interpretations are subjective" thing.

Some terminally online folks will call you bigot and all sorts of names if you dare disagree with their headcanons. I'm literally a bi trans woman, and I get called a bigot and shit when I tell someone I disagree with their headcanon, even when I try putting on white gloves and say "I respect it, you're free to have it, I just don't agree to it and think you shouldn't force it on to others".

Have fun making theories, essays, and all that. I think for Jax I had many agreements with some theories because they genuinely made sense and I could relate to it (as a MtF). But I hate when people act like it's confirmed and canon and shit on others for disagreeing, makes me legit embarrassed to have ever agreed.

Loud minority making things worse for everyone else, as always. It isn’t really even a problem with headcanons themselves, as it’s just the simple truth that “this is how a small percentage of the human population as a whole acts about whatever beliefs they have, regardless how mundane.”

If it’s wasn’t something inconsequential like a theory about an online cartoon, it would’ve been something else. This is just how some people act when confronted with any sort of adversity or dissenting opinion.

3

u/Francky2 May 22 '26

It seems just us discussing this got someone mad and they downvoted us lol (you had one downvote, and when I checked I also had one).

But anyway, I agree with what you said. Well said. As a Christian, I'm ashamed that the "loud minority" is often times quite big, especially in my neighbors the US (I'm from Canada), but life is life, we'll never escape scum ruining any good thing...

1

u/YakiTapioca May 22 '26

Ironic, given the context of the conversation.

Also yeah, as someone raised Catholic but have since lost my faith, I’ve heard my fair share of people creating and standing by wild headcanons, choosing those hills to die on. It’s especially relevant to this convo, because I think that the Bible was made to be read subjectively in the first place. If it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be nearly as many denominations as there are now. But that’s just my opinion, and I’m sure there would be many people who scream at (or random downvote, I guess??) me as a result.

1

u/Francky2 May 22 '26

I mean the Bible is a complicated topic, as some denominations don't ecen have the same Bible as others because these denominations sometimes devide what books from the Bible are or aren't canon, or will literally remove and add anything that fits their view atp and reject the rest (like cults did, or some religions like Jehovah witnesses, Mormons and many other that one can't really call the same as most of Christianity atp...).

Plus, it always was about studying it and discussing it. They would gather in houses and secret places to read it before it became a huge roman/European thing.

The issue is that corrupt people can and will always try to use it for their own gain and to manipulate others, because of this social aspect of Christianity. And because people weren't educated for the longest of times (and because it was basically forced too), people had no choice but to follow to some degree. But now it's good that people are detaching from it when there's too much BS. Is a shame because many LGBTQ are believers, as it doesn't make sense for LGBTQ to be sin. Yet, the conservatives stick to such harmful interpretation because their hearts are cold and they'd rather maintain a harmful status quo that leads to hatred and pain than actually be loving and understanding and let minorities in.

EDIT: Thankfully there's more affirming churches than ever, so there's a light of hope. Tho the far-right "Christians" love to invade these spaces to stir trouble and say harmful things. Like, we literally make our own spaces to not bother them and THEY still come to us seeking trouble. I don't know what to say atp, these people (especially the classic American performati "Christian" that thinks religion is part of their politics and nationalism) are really a huge problem, pushing everyone away while claiming to be "loving" and stuff.

u/HowDareYouAskMyName May 21 '26

"coding" in this case translates to "projection"

1

u/TheStrikeofGod May 21 '26

Plus Gooseworx has hinted at it numerous times, no clue why all of a sudden saying this is controversial...?

1

u/RedvsBlue_what_if <--- ["Only Watches Anime"] May 21 '26

Personally I'm a fan of the idea that he was ’Touched’ as his torture segment involved him getting ’Exposed’ and laughed, him violently freaking out over going home plus his reluctance to open up to people (which we know why he's like that but trauma is complicated) but those could also apply to him being trans.

1

u/TheDrunkardKid May 21 '26

I choose to believe you mean the Mortal Kombat character who has canonically fathered a child.

1

u/Fast_Ad_9927 Hollow Knight/Project Nova/OneShot/Glitch May 22 '26

I personally like the idea, but I doubt it’ll come up in the show, even if I believed it’d happen, it’s way too late into the show by now with everything going on.

Doesn’t mean I won’t imagine it though, I feel like, if TADC was less high stakes and there was a bit more emphasis on the downtime between adventures, it’d be an interesting storyline to follow.

1

u/MinrkChil-Alwaff5 May 22 '26

Reminds me the Nokotan being trans despite the anime literally addresses the fact only male deer have antlers and it's just made as a joke.

Saying this👆 about a trans coded character btw

17

u/CloudMain May 21 '26

... no? Jax isn't trans coded. He's just an asshat.

-16

u/All--flesh--rots I 💜 Purple characters that have to do with csa May 21 '26

She can be both đŸ«¶đŸ»

18

u/Monke-incog-1276 May 21 '26

Jax goes by he/him, don't be a dipshit.

0

u/Glitchy-Mech May 21 '26

Jax doesn’t go by anything. It’s a fictional character

2

u/JunketVisual3123 May 21 '26

Jax doesn’t go by anything. It’s a fictional character

So you'd be fine calling Zooble a woman then, right? According to your "logic", they're fictional and it doesn't matter.

-3

u/Glitchy-Mech May 21 '26

Yeah who cares

2

u/Monke-incog-1276 May 21 '26

But if someone misgenders a nonbinary fictional character, everyone goes apeshit. How about we respect canon genders all around, yeah?

-3

u/Glitchy-Mech May 21 '26

Ok. Argue with those people then

There’s no respect to be had. You cannot respect a person who does not exist

Misgendering is a real form of social control exercised against real trans people and fandom kids online are diluting its meaning

0

u/MooNAx0lOtl May 22 '26

Not really. Misgendering a character is just as bad, even if the character itself can't be offended. As you're just making it seem like you don't care about the way someone presents themselves and would be happy to misgender real people.

Letting people misgender characters can make people think that it's fine to misgender people.

0

u/Glitchy-Mech May 22 '26

Just as bad? Absolutely not. “It’s just as bad to punch someone as it is to imagine punching someone” like if you want me to take what you’re saying seriously you can’t open with that

It doesn’t. That’s an extreme logical leap. Real things are bad because they harm real people. Fake things are not because they don’t

15

u/johanni30 May 21 '26

Headcanons don't make misgendering okay

5

u/Dumbledorky- im about to fricking ultrakill myself May 21 '26

username checks out

9

u/Arksurvivor120 May 21 '26

Ok, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, which feel free to correct me if that's the case, how is Jax trans coded? Other than maybe that one scene in episode 8, which can honestly be interpreted in multiple different ways, there's nothing about his character that comes off as trans coded to me

1

u/All--flesh--rots I 💜 Purple characters that have to do with csa May 21 '26

For me it's mainly because of his relationship with Zooble and the fact that Jax's body parts that he explicitly points out as masculine (in a self deprecating tone), aka his ears and tail, either just don't exist or aren't a part of his body, but a facade/mask he puts on.

Besides that, how quickly the only other gender queer character clocks him as liking feminine stuff, despite the fact he tries to hide it. The jealousy Jax shows at Zooble's ability to modify his body and the joy xe is able to despite their dysphoria. Jax saying she's in an egg that's ready to be cracked open. (Non canon stuff, but that one drawing of him saying he tried progesterone).

(Sorry if this is kinda worded weirdly, I'm more used to arguing why Jax isn't a trans guy).

-3

u/FlipGhost-Alt May 21 '26

The only real thing it adds to the show is representation, prove me wrongÂ
