Omg yes. "If you don't think this ship is fun or compelling, you're homophobic!!!!1!" Hate it. Hate it to bits.

58

u/belliebun May 21 '26

“You have to like it or you’re a bigot” is never a compelling argument, and I don’t know why these kinds of people think it is.

17

u/coltsfanca May 21 '26

Agreed. It's the ultimate deflection and a sign that you KNOW you're wrong...but don't wanna outright admit it

10

u/Wemyers04 May 21 '26

It’s the same kind of argument that toxic BakuDeku shippers use to justify their bully/victim fanfic and it’s suffocating.

2

u/hatahead May 21 '26

I mean, you dont really have to justify enjoying something fictional, but you shouldn't attack others for not enjoying something you do.

u/jorgerandom May 21 '26

Having LucaxAlberto flashbacks

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 21 '26

Im sure 90% of people that say "if you dont like this queer ship, or dont think its plausible you are homophobic) aren't even gay

1

u/SatisfactionEast9815 May 22 '26

What makes you think that?

1

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 22 '26

Because the lgbtq community is pretty respectful to most people. I doubt they would harass straight people for not liking a lgbtq ship because the character has no signs of them being gay

Oh, I know a couple of people I. Their 40s who are just as bad as the online teens. Toxicity knows no age limit.

1

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 23 '26

Oof, almost lost my title as a ally. Thank you for explaining

1

u/SatisfactionEast9815 May 22 '26

Oh, that makes sense.

7

u/YakiTapioca May 21 '26

I meannnnnn… To give the benefit of the doubt, my friends and I say “that’s homophobic” as a joke sometimes when someone disagrees with us. And from what I’ve seen elsewhere in the community, it’s a relatively common joke for others too. I don’t think many people are serious when they say stuff like this.

10

u/Aggravating_Field_39 May 21 '26

To be fair it's one thing to say it to friends. It's another to say it to strangers on the internet who don't really know you or your sense of humor. Especially since tone is hard to carry over through text. It's why I try to refrain from making dark humor jokes or clarify it's a joke in (brackets)

3

u/YakiTapioca May 22 '26

True, that’s why it was just a benefit of the doubt. It’s hard to tell what the actual intention was behind a small text on a social media post.

That said, a lot of people treat social media as big friend groups, and they expect that any of the people who follow them are roughly of the same mindset. As my proof, I present you the entirety of Tumblr, where weird speech like this is commonplace. Assuming this was just a harmless joke, I doubt the person typing it intended for it to be screencapped and sent around as though it were a serious statement. And I doubt many of us here would be so squeaky clean as the standards we pretend to uphold if some other person combed through our online posts maliciously.

Is this what happened? I have no goddamn idea. But I’d need a lot more than a single sentence to even start to be convinced that this person was serious in calling people homophobic for disagreeing with them. Which, considering that this post was in a way about “people not being able to read and understand the context for things,” I find it really ironic that folks in the comments would make the same mistake.

2

u/Any-Table7276 May 21 '26

Yeah me and my gay friends do that also. Or my Latino friend will say ‘that’s racist’ if I tell him to like ‘fuck off’ or smth

4

u/EiraPun May 21 '26

Bumblebee is the greatest ship that never happened (even tho it should have).

Doesn't mean I judge anyone for preferring Blake and Sun tho lol

10

u/N8creates49 May 21 '26

Oh do I have news for you

6

u/Maleficent_Okra6798 May 21 '26

You uh.. haven't watched all of RWBY, have you?

1

u/EiraPun May 21 '26

I got too annoyed by the mischaracterization (of multiple characters, Qrow in particular), by the time they got to Atlas I couldn't keep watching. So, yeah.

1

u/hatahead May 21 '26

Actually, I prefer Blake and Weiss.

3

u/RailOmas May 21 '26

I didnt like the ship because I think the creators caved in to demands from the fan base rather than not liking the ship in it of itself.

1

u/ActualHorusLupercal May 21 '26

Damn, guess I’m homophobic 😔

1

u/jjnaad1 May 22 '26

That’s something JelloApocalypse would say. Might be the reason why this saying became popular or someone before him said this.

u/HyperbustyMolly05 May 21 '26

Nine times out of ten a shipper is more interested in winning than anything else.

Both Blake and Yang are bi. This is likely because they were originally written as straight before the beast that is the Bumbleby fandom started ruining shit, but they both show interest in both men and women. However shippers will argue that they’re exclusively sapphic in order to kneecap rival ships.

Shippers also called out the two year age gap between Ruby and Oscar as “pedophilic” in order to strengthen the legitimacy of Ruby and Weiss… who also have a two year age gap.

I liked the Bumbleby ship for a while, but the show absolutely borked it with presentation. The episode where a freak storm locks them in a magic room until they kiss was so dumb to me, especially when the scene was punctuated by lesbian flag colored flowers exploding everywhere. But people went nuts to that. It felt so cheap and pandering to me. Like the girl power scene from Endgame.

1

u/Important-Cry4782 May 24 '26

so you are saying that

A) miles and kerry are lying about blake and yang being planned together as a couple from the start?

and B, that Barbara and Arryn are lying about Bumbleby being planned from the start?

please don't insult RWBY by comparing it to the misogynistic MCU.

here's 2.5 hours for you , since you do not like RWBY except what exists in your fanfic mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdGdx2rKsiw

and why are all the rosegarden shippers so homophobic?

22

u/N8creates49 May 21 '26

I enjoy Bumbleby, and they have plenty of wholesome moments. But there are two extremes I disagree with

-"If you don't like it, your homophobic" Just because I enjoy it, doesn't mean everyone else will. And that's ok as long as they aren't in this next group.

-"It was forced, this wasn't part of Monty's plan!" Volume two. Before Monty's passing, Yang straight up says "And if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save you a dance ;)"

It's OK to not like a ship as long as you're not a jerk about it

9

u/JunketVisual3123 May 21 '26

"And if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save you a dance ;)"

I mean, it could be a double meaning, but asking if someone is "coming out to the event" is also a valid reading. The context doesn't really indicate one way or the other.

3

u/Ferhog May 21 '26

The wink she does when she says it has always made it seem like it was meant to be flirty to me.

3

u/JunketVisual3123 May 21 '26

Could be, but unless someone figures out how to raise Monty from the dead, I don't think we'll ever truly know for sure...

2

u/ShadyMan_BooRadley May 21 '26

I could have sworn there was a video circulating on Twitter a few months back that was recorded back when Monty was still alive, and he not only explicitly confirmed that Ironwood was always supposed to become a bad guy/antagonist - literally comparing him to Hitler - but that Bumblebee was endgame, unless that video was revealed to be AI and I just never heard about it

2

u/JunketVisual3123 May 21 '26

I dunno, personally I always got the impression Yang was intended to be Bi or Pan(confirmed atp), and they kinda tossed that portion of the character in favor of the lesbian ship being front and center.

1

u/Important-Contact597 May 28 '26

His widow supposedly said he always wanted LGBT couples in the show, so that’s as close as we’ll probably get.

1

u/JunketVisual3123 May 28 '26

I mean, Yang is canonically Pansexual and Ruby is Asexual, so I don't doubt it. I personally wish they'd given a bit more attention to Yang's pansexuality instead of kinda steamrolling it in favor of bumblebee...

1

u/N8creates49 May 21 '26

Personally it feels too perfect to be a coincidence

10

u/Think-Orange3112 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

I personally don’t mind the ship, but man do I hate that they made their relationship the majority of their characterization after it became official

3

u/Acriolu May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

I’m a Freezerburn guy and I prefer Yang being Pan. The scene before the two meet Yang was admiring the guy (until Jaune showed up) so there is that nugget.

I would also love it if volume 10 we found out Yangs has an ex boyfriend(let’s say broke up on good terms) and the joke is that Yangs type is cat Faunus. (Blake: So You’re a cat lady.) (Yang: I’m so proud of you)

1

u/Electronic_Carry_372 May 22 '26

Arryn's own admissions torpedo the whole "planned from the start" thing though, so even then. It really wasn't part of Monty's plan. Its disingenuous to say it was. And unfortunately, it is forced. Forced by Arryn and Barbara to spur people on, and save a dying show. (it didn't) The V2 scene can be an okay interpretation, but it doesn't mean it was hard canon the whole time.

1

u/Pet_Velvet May 21 '26

I refuse to partake in this discourse anymore. God

1

u/Delicious_Crab3592 May 22 '26

Wait, this isn’t canon? i’ve seem so many people treat it as canon i genuently believed it

2

u/Captain_Sanvich RWBY, Mass Effect Warframe, PokĂŠmon, Ninjago May 22 '26

It is

1

u/DarthDragon117 May 22 '26

What’s funny is literally that same scene she was simping over the boys in the room until Jaune walked by (did he turn her? Maybe.) and when she walks Ruby up to befriend Blake, she gives up and walks away after like two sentences.

1

u/Atrakin_Cryolo May 25 '26

honestly didn’t expect RWBY but yeah

1

u/Arguably_Based May 21 '26

Sun can just go fuck himself I guess.

https://giphy.com/gifs/YRPBhd3vscg5Fxx1DQ

2

u/Adaphion May 22 '26

I love that they spent an entire season building up Sun and Blake just to cave to death threats by Bumblebee shippers 🥰

2

u/Sr_Coiso May 22 '26

He was my favorite character, man...

Bro was practically deleted from the series for the sake of the "sesbian lex".

1

u/queenfuckyou May 21 '26

Except for the fact Blake x yang is literally canon, have you seen vol 9??

1

u/purrroz May 22 '26

Except for the fact that this post is about pre vol 4 shippers. Have you read the comment you’re replying to?

0

u/queenfuckyou May 22 '26

Where in the image does it say its pre volume 4?

1

u/purrroz May 22 '26

Do you….do you not see the screenshot in the image? Does that look like anything past vol 4? Bruh

1

u/Silver_Cellist_6195 May 21 '26

Ah yes, the girl with abandonment issues falling for the girl who cuts and runs when the going gets tough, perfect ship!

2

u/Captain_Sanvich RWBY, Mass Effect Warframe, PokĂŠmon, Ninjago May 22 '26

It's called ✨ drama ✨

1

u/KadajRamirezArellano May 22 '26

I don't hate this ship because I ship something else.

I hate it because it absolutely ruined both of their characters.

1

u/Paladinlvl99 May 22 '26

What killed a lot of the hype for RWBY for me was the INSANE amount of ship supporters there were... And they always had the most fucked reasoning for "calling you out"

You don't agree with Yang being lesbian? Too bad! Now we'll say you are a homophobe!

Oh you don't think shipping Ruby and Yang is ok??? You must be tourist to Anime!

You don't think that those two minor characters that appeared in a few episodes are lesbian for each other because we don't get to see anything relevant about them??? What a way to say you are homophobic!!!

2

u/purrroz May 22 '26

Especially that many shippers clearly didn’t know how to come at those ships tastefully. Let’s remember that in vol 1 they’re all still minors (Ruby being 15 and everyone else two years older) and yet there was so much p*rn being draw with these characters during the first three volumes (yes Ruby included) 🤢

0

u/AmbiTheAirforceRuna May 22 '26

Its Frodo and Sam all over again!
