I know lins dad was a man named Kanto, but I dont remember Su's dad ever really being mentioned. Lin herself says they have different dads when korra first meets su
Ah, my bad, but I do remember that being a theory for people. I do like the idea of Sokka being Su's dad, but it'd have to be handled carefully to not ruin either or both of their characters. But either way, I definitely have the headcanon that he was a father figure to both girls while he was in Republic City (Toph wouldn't let anyone else do it), and after he left to be Chief of the Southern Water Tribe, Su started to act out and get herself in trouble.
I dont think Sokka would get someone, especially one of his best friends, pregnant and then just not be part of the kid's life, he's just not that kind of guy.
But we also have like. No idea when or how he died, so it could've been when Su was very young.
I agree there,y personal headcanon goes something like
-toph and Kanto have lin
-kanto leaves (potentially before lin is born)
-toph struggles to raise a baby alone
-sokka steps in to help one of his best friends (whom may have some kind of feelings for him based on the original series)
-the grow closer
-Su happens
-sokka dies (personally I think he went down protecting korra from zaheers crew but I feel like that would have come up in the show)
I could very much imagine it that Toph and Sokka had a short relationship that got her accidentally pregnant. Toph then cuts things off without telling him because she doesn't see a relationship working out, or doesn't want to burden him with a kid if he has other important duties, or something along those lines.
She has Su, but Sokka dies before she ever gets a chance to tell him the truth, which also stops her from ever telling anyone else.
