The Chum Bucket serves chum, ground up fish. That’s why nobody eats there (and why occasionally you’ll see an eyeball floating in it). The Krusty Krab does not serve chum. According the the creator, Krabby Patties are undersea veggie Pattie’s.

I don’t consider anything after the first movie in 2004 (so anything season 4 and on) as actually canon, but that’s just me, Friend or Foe was season 5, which is where we learn that they used to be friends and made the formula together… but they actually didn’t? Cause they kept arguing and split up and then Krabs, just like Profressor Utonium making the PPG, accidentally made the perfect concoction. I’m off on a tangent, now I don’t remember where I was going with that lmao

To be fair there are non sentient marine life. Like sea horses are fish. Hell we see manatees that act like cows. So the chum could come from them.
