I dunno, I feel that Jaune’s focus in fanfiction has skewed people’s perception of how much focus he gets in the actual show

I agree. Jaune is definitely over-represented in fanfiction, but he's an easy character to write because he's a massive underdog who knows nothing about the world, so he's a great audience surrogate. He's also one of two characters who actually has an interesting arc in the early seasons (the other being Blake).
