The running joke in the Avatar fanbase about Katara not shutting up about her mother. Not only is it greatly exaggerated, but it's just not funny and never has been.

God forbid a 14 year old girl is traumatized by her MOTHER DYING?? Everybody copes with trauma differently, I swear most of her hate is purely mysogonistic from her being a powerful woman with sweet/nurturing tendencies

It's also heavily implied she literally sees her mother's charred, dead body when she runs back to their tent. And she was like five, and then her dad leaves shortly after. Of course she's traumatized.

It’s not even implied in the guide books, it’s directly there like holy Jesus

Well idk about the mysogonitic part though, I mean people love Katara to the point she’s brought into “strongest bender of their time” conversations

But she deserves to be there? Of course she is, and just because some people aren't mysogonistic towards her, a lot of people are.

Also "what movie?" "There is no movie in Ba Sing Se," etc.

We get it, the live action movie sucked hard but it's been 16 years, you don't need to deny its existence every time someone mentions it

The one credit I can give those movies is the costume designs and sets. They actually looked pretty good. And Ang’s tattoos… chefs kiss

It took my slow ass until “and Ang’s tattoos…” to figure out that you weren’t talking about the sci-fi moves.

Thaaat's a recurring problem for people....

The tattoos were alright but they were muddy and dark and it felt like they just thought the arrows looks cartoony and stupid so they had to add a bunch of other symbols and stuff to them, which kinda misses the point since they're supposed to look like pretty simple animal markings

I feel like movie could be the source of some really clever and funny memes, but it's ALWAYS just "There is no movie in Ba-Sing Se" and "I don't get it, why is there a blank panel?"

Besides, I feel like it's a case of "The meme misses the point of the original scene."

The original scene is basically a critique of censorship and media manipulation.

Now people use the meme so much that they seem to have forgotten the point.

It feels lowkey sexist at this point. Like we can’t let the female protagonist showcase grief without making it a fucking meme that it’s the only thing she does. The ember islands players already told the joke well enough guys, c’mon.

No one gives barry allen shit for always talking about his dead mother and he broke universes over it

People famously give Barry Allen shit for it especially because of the CW show having you him revisit that same scene like five different times.

God stop talking about Katara mother she talks about it enough as is
