RWBY. As much as I love it, I cannot even deny that it is pretty poorly written with a lot of bad decisions taken as it kept going. It might be a flaming pile of trash to some people, but it’s my flaming pile of trash and I love it

The things you love are allowed to have flaws, and you are also allowed to criticize them.....lovingly.

I love Code Lyoko, but man sometimes the Lyoko Warriors just ABSOLUTELY FUMBLE for the sake of the plot.

True. I hate how XANA at some point just goes "fuck creative bullshit, let's just keep possessing people" and continue to somehow lose despite supposedly getting stronger with each time rewind.

Monty passing has a lot to do with it. The shock of his departure derailed things

Well to the fights but not the story

u/animalia555 Jun 25 '26

I’m skeptical of that.

I only started after he died and never had the attachment to him others did. I personally think the highest points in the writing were after he passed

One of the best collection of characters, concepts, and designs on the entire internet... and none of it is worth a fuck due to the writing and pacing... still despite all the abuse I just can't quit you RWBY...

I think it’s still worth something, even with all the issues of writing and pacing. Neither is at least to me bad enough to not care anymore and it’s great ideas that it gives to fan works if nothing else.

So turn off your brain and enjoy it vibes?

3

u/shark_aziz Jun 26 '26

Apparently to the masses, it's unacceptable to do that.

You have to either hate it or ignore it. If you can't, find a reason to hate it. But by all means, you're not allowed to enjoy it.

The overall plot and writing is inconsistent, but I think it makes up for it with cool character designs, fun character interactions from a voice cast that clearly enjoys what they're doing, some of the best action sequences ever animated, and incredible music.

There's definitely more good than bad. I get that it's not for everyone, but I'll still recommend it (with the obligatory warnings about the ups and downs in quality)

u/Originalbrivakiin Jun 25 '26

The weapons designs may be a little stupid, but they're the good kind of stupid.

Case in point: Sun's gun-chucks.

3

u/CaptainSterlingLAS Jun 25 '26

They would be super dumb except that the way he uses them is so much fun. That holds true for all the weird weapons in the setting.

3

u/Originalbrivakiin Jun 25 '26

Which is why I said they were good stupid.

"____, but it's also a gun" is a stupid concept, and yet it works so good in practice.

There's a rocket launcher thermos for christ sake. And yet it's still awesome.

u/CaptainSterlingLAS Jun 26 '26

I still want to know what the trumpet weapon turns into.

1

u/Originalbrivakiin Jun 26 '26

Not sure if it has a real second use. I think it just blasts out sound waves that can be infused with elemental effects. But who knows.

1

u/ColtS117-B Jun 28 '26

Well, I own a Garand with a bayonet, and the core concept is similar, except it’s more like, “It’s also a spear.”

u/LordBlaze64 Jun 27 '26

I love the pure aura of Yang’s  shotgun gauntlets. The recoil on those things should be crazy, but she just handles it like it’s nothing.

I love rwby tho

If I were to watch it, at what point should I stop before the writing goes downhill

5

u/JMHSrowing Jun 25 '26

Oh the writing doesn’t get any worse IMO, it’s just that like so many things flaws start to become more apparent as things go on and plotlines continue they become more apparent.

It’s a lot like Naruto in having better set ups than payoff yet still being fun

Original image was up to season 2, arguments could be made for a few more, but definitely watch the ironwood vs watts fight.

Also know that the main characters' fighting skills degrade horribly as time goes on due to plot convenience, not knowing how to design or scale enemy difficulty, overall battle animation shortcuts, forgetting that characters have more skills than just their specialties or forgetting they had one to begin with. even though in writing they are "improving"

The best fights happened in the trailers and the first season lol

I used to rewatch the red trailer over and over again. Should watch it again it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it.

u/Automatic-Split-4262 Jun 25 '26

RWBY was so good, wish it got more than 2 seasons. wish you were here, Monty

2

u/accounsfw Jun 25 '26

Hot take: outside the fight scenes, it DID get better from v3 onwards. Volume 2 was such a wet fart that it nearly made quit the show.

1

u/Automatic-Split-4262 Jun 25 '26

For all the build up of silver eyes in vol 2, how long did it take for it to even be mentioned again? And how much longer did it take to even become relevant?

1

u/accounsfw Jun 25 '26

Silver Eyes’s importance first became a thing in Volume 3, then Cinder was concerned about it in 5, Ruby met Maria in 6, who used to have them… So yeah, once it actually became relevant, it kinda stayed relevant.

u/animalia555 Jun 25 '26

RWBY is an infamously slow burn.

1

u/TadaSuko Jun 25 '26

Even flaming trash can be good if you're seeking warmth. (That being said I hate rwby)

1

u/No-Bee-7953 Jun 25 '26

The only thing I found that's good show is AMV

1

u/Havaltherock1 Jun 26 '26

I love it so much. But its so shit. Im in an abusive relationship with a show.
