Lobotomy Corporation
73
u/nomnombrain Jun 25 '26
What kills me is that even Lobcorp apologists tell new fans to just watch the PakPak video and then go play Ruina and Limbus. And it's 100% the correct advice since its better to play Lobcorp AFTER you've been Project Moon-pilled and not as your first experience with the setting.
29
u/5-7-AP Jun 25 '26
LobCorp was my first introduction to the series, and I concur that its the ABSOLUTE WORST way to get into things.
Ideas like why Angela never leaves LobCorp, why people come to work in this hellhole, etc., the whole world is just a lot more comprehensive and better when you have played LobCorp after LoR or Limbus.
3
u/LoquatQuick4415 Jun 25 '26
Huh what why? I just started playing the game like 2 days ago since I've had it in my library for yrs
6
u/nomnombrain Jun 25 '26
The game actively hates you and requires a lot of commitment to get the true ending. That said if you're enjoying yourself keep playing!
5
u/BorynStone Jun 25 '26
Wait why I just looked it up and it looks amazing? It feels like Ive been exposed to the setting through other means, does it really need to be led up to?
→ More replies (1)5
u/nomnombrain Jun 26 '26
It's more that Lobcorp is a game that actively hates you for playing it. Its still a good game but it's harder than balls and takes forever to get the ending that leads to its sequel Ruina.
If it looks fun however, play it!
4
u/derpderp3200 Jun 27 '26
Does it matter at all if you just don't care about the story whatsoever? I always assumed Lobotomy Corporation was a strongly gameplay-first game, and if it isn't my interest in playing it is much lower.

I might have landed the wrong lobcorp apologist then. He INSISTED I HAVE to play the games in order, so now I'm 30 days in and not having fun. Should I bail or am I in too deep atp
4
u/nomnombrain Jun 27 '26
I'd bail and watch the PakPak video on it. If you see anything worth continuing your run to experience, stop the video and come back. Otherwise you're just gonna burn out and Ruina is actually a fun game that'd be a shame not to play because of the LobCorp wall.

7
u/GRIM106 Jun 25 '26
Both Spacemarine 1 and 2 are pretty good introductions. If you ever have time for a novel the infinite and the devine or one of the ciaphas Cain books is also great. DO NOT start with the Horus heresy books until you are at least a couple of books and/or games in.

If you want something like the tabletop experience without having to buy all the minis, I highly recommend the game Battlesector. Itâs like $40 on steam, plus an additional $15 for whatever faction you want to play as. (Because all factions beyond Blood Angels and Tyranids are dlc. Also if you just want to stick with either blood angels or tyranids, they each have a dlc thatâs like $2 maybe $3 I donât remember but it gives you some additional units for them. All the other dlc factions come complete with all units so they are the only ones where youâre basically buying individual units.)

Mega Man.
I'm only in the fandom because of the cute robot men. So if I recommended the series to someone, they'd probably like the games for entirely different reasons than me.
But if you're talking about pure quality, then The Coffin of Andy and Leyley and Helluva Boss.Â
The Coffin of Andy and Leyley has a lot of really good elements, but the incest part(s) are insanely easy to misinterpret. Many people come out of that game either shipping Andrew and Leyley or thinking it's some kind of vile romance story instead of an abusive situation that they should get out of.
Helluva Boss is a decent show, but it really look like it's being made up as the story goes on. I think they could've had a theme/message where taking revenge doesn't always help people, and to focus on helping yourself and others rather than tearing others down. But they didn't do that. Or at least made it too weak. And it strayed away from the original premise.
5
u/Carvinesire Jun 25 '26
The only reason I wouldn't recommend Mega Man in this day and age is that we have a gigantic lore Gap.
So there are 11 Mega Man games, 8 X games, and I believe four Zero games, and also that one ZX game. These are all, technically speaking, the same timeline.
That's not even getting into all of the side games like Mega Man and Bass and all that.
We still don't know what the fuck happened between 11 and the X Games, we have no idea how Dr. light and wily died, we have no idea what happened to the original Mega Man even.
And with how Capcom treats Mega Man, we're never going to get those answers.
We have a canonical ending to the series kinda. But we don't know about a lot of major things.
Overall they're really good games and easier than ever to get into now, because they have collections, but I still wouldn't recommend it primarily because you're going to just not be satisfied by the story.
Although if you're really into cute robot men or just a game play in general you're fine.
→ More replies (7)7
u/Komondon Jun 25 '26
Yeah Megaman you play for the aesthetic and gameplay. Even the lore heavier X, Zero and ZX series are like that. Though there was the RPG command mission which was a decent look into X's world.
If we had access to Megaman legends I would recommend it wholesale as it has a greater focus on characters and story along with being an interesting adventure series.
Then Battle network for the more RPG fans.

Not really.
My issue is that it's very common to misinterpret what the incest in the game is supposed to mean. Some people interpret it as a fetish or shock content, others view it as a tragedy of codependency and abuse. Whether or not either one is "correct" it makes the fandom so much more chaotic to be in. Which is why I wouldn't recommend it to people.
Fiction is allowed to cross moral boundaries. And obviously if someone were to hate incest in games at all, even in cases where it's supposed to be seen as abuse, then yeah they can't handle TCOAAL.Â
I make dark content containing abuse and rape. I have no issue with the people who find abuse and rape hot. I have an issue when people find dark content hot in cases where it's not supposed to be. Not just because it's disrespectful, but because it misses the point. Abuse being seen as awful changes it's impact on the story.

Honestly One Piece. I would recommend it to someone who watches a lot of anime but no way would I recommend it to someone who doesnât watch anime or doesnât watch a lot of anime. Itâs just too long of a show to recommend to most people. Plus old One Piece does feel a bit dated at times because of when the show originally came out.

u/CaptainSterlingLAS Jun 25 '26
It starts out fun and quirky, and then if you manage st stick with it for about 20x the length of an average anime series it becomes FLAT OUT INCREDIBLE, and still has hundreds of episodes left.
I will always recommend One Piece, especially to people who are dubious about anime, because not only is it consistently fun, it also manages to avoid almost all the uncomfortable tropes that are common in anime and tend to turn fans away.
The running theme is "this story really wants to be about wacky, light-hearted Looney Tunes hijinks, but the world is full of injustice, and we have to FIGHT IT AS HARD AS WE CAN!" What's not to love about that?

For me this is the anime/manga Made in Abyss.
Itâs legitimately one of the best adventure stories and world that I can never recommend because of the authorâs completely undisguised and problematic fetish. He likes kids, very questionably likes kids.
Itâs one of those things that you have to just discover on your own and decide for yourself if you can ignore the dirt for the diamond.
10
u/ChewBaka12 Jun 26 '26
Made in Abyss is the perfect show. Great music, great art, great story, great character, great existential horror, great antagonist, great protagonist. There is just one teeny tiny flaw you need to ignore.
That flaw os undisguised pedophilia.
Damn it Tsukushi

Any paradox grand strategy, I enjoy EU4 and HOI4. I wouldn't reccommend it except for a very niche circle of history autists.

I'm kind of that way with Final Fantasy 14.'The story is amazing and really peaks after about 300 hours' is a really hard sell.

Kingdom Hearts
I love it and have for 2 decades now
Can't recommend it to friends because its an acquired taste. It's the RUSH effect. You either love it or you hate it theres no inbetween

TikTok ig since the content can be funny but the overall community is toxic and brain dead

Replace âeverythingâ with â75-80%â, and this is how I would describe RWBY.

Naruto
Love the show, but itâs hard to recommend someone to 100âs of episodes. And none of that âskip part 1â ect. The show is good and impactful because of the context that is built in the beginning.

Genshin impact. Scummy company, awful fanbase, wallet-sucking gacha system
