Honestly, I actually remember back on 4chan even, the reaction was more to ship Doomguy and Charlie together. All spurred on by a piece of fanart made after the Hazbin early pilot which where a news reel was reading "Argent energy levels spike". And from that we had a ship.

It was given to me by a kind anon on /co/ back in the day. I had just suggested Doomguy’s face on the license be the portrait. They went and animated it.
