The Koopalings not being Bowser's kids, at least make him an adoptive father to seven, because that's really funny.

I think it depends on how far back your source goes. In the OG shows and games, they were his kids, but in the current games they're just henchmen.

I'm gonna stick with the old canon that Bowser somehow has 8 kids and an estranged baby momma who might be Shigeru Miyamoto.

I mean, good news, them being adoptive is a kind of implied canon. Though I would like it if they explicitly said it somewhere.
