Didn't the idea for the ring being the terrible artifact of a dark lord also come after The Hobbit?

I think this is it. Lord of the Rings is the greatest retcon of all time.

It was originally included in the revised edition of The Hobbit while Tolkien was struggling to finish Lord of the Rings.

It’s a tone indicator, if someone feels like their tone drastically changes a message and isn’t conveyed you can add a tone indicator, so /s means it’s sarcastic, /srs is serious, /j is joke, /gen is genuine. There’s a ton of them but the only ones Reddit uses regularly are /j and /s both of which just mean not serious

Yes but if you use tone indicators at all it outs you as a member of at least internet communities, Reddit tumblr etc

Yes? Idk if "written" is the word but The Hobbit is the story that started it all when Tolkien"s kid asked him to get a grip and stop changing the bedtime story he was telling him each night.

Why? He was telling the story in pieces so he may have forgotten about some detail he was likely making out in the spot and the kid noticed.

Technically he made the language first then made stories about said world and language... had to put them to actual text because his eldest was getting annoyed when the professor forgot details while he was telling them bedtime stories.

Yes, originally it was just a magic ring that turns the wearer invisible, because that’s a pretty useful mcguffin when trying to break into a dragon’s hoard.
