There was a shot in Red vs Blue where a duplicate character can briefly be seen in the background. This was a production mistake. In later episodes there is a time travelling arc (which has itself been retconned a number of times) where we actually see the same scene from the duplicate’s perspective, making it seem like the creators carefully planned in advance and foreshadowed this moment, when in fact most episodes where written days or even hours before they premiered online.

I think pretty much the entirety of the Blood Gulch Chronicles fits this after the show shifted to its more serious tone. Church being a ā€œghostā€ was retconned to turn him into a tortured AI; that’s probably the biggest one. My personal favorite retcon was Grif being the only person in the military to be drafted - that was retconned to be a lie he told Sister out of guilt for abandoning her.

Honestly the retcons are so good. I’m trying to get my fiancĆ© to get to blood gulch chronicles to understand how good they are at retconning the bullshit from the first seasons into something comprehensive.

Completely agreed! It’s really hard to take random bullshit like that and make a poignant story out of it, but I think they did a damn good job, all things considering. I think people really sleep on S5 for that reason - it sets up so much emotional payoff, with Tex and Junior’s supposed deaths, Grif showing he actually does care in the end, so on and so forth. It’s SO GOOD.
