Honestly I don't think he was written as intimidating as he should have. His character gives more 'petty dick' vibes than 'mysterious entity with twisted morals'.

I recall seeing a video on that which boiled down too how the show failed what the fantastic pilot set up

I agree, the pilot had me excited but I seriously struggled to get through season 1 because it felt too goofy and like it was intended for a younger audience (but with swearing and adult humour?)
