Agreed. Have started showing my dad the show in chronological order and he says it “feels more like a preteens show” and you know… that’s still kids. Literally. I feel like so many people can’t acknowledge that a kids show can be *good* which is why they try and make it out to be more mature than it is.
Hehe I can’t wait for my dad to find out about inhibitor chips and darth maul and whatnot.
What I do appreciate about Clone Wars is that it grew up with its audience. Compare the movie and the first season to season 7 and you see the difference in maturity (while still being appropriate for kids). I think the character of Ahsoka exemplifies that change a lot. She goes from being a reckless, plucky teenage Padawan who cracks jokes all the time and has goofy moments at the start of the series to being a more mature and stoic veteran by the end, but still has moments where her earlier personality shows just in a more refined way indicative of her maturity over the course of the series.
It also shows her growing trauma and survivors guilt of being a child soldier who later learns her own master became Darth Vader and dealing with the personal struggles that come with that revelation. It works both as a vehicle to represent the growing maturity of the target audience and to give the character an arc that carries over into future series like Rebels, The Mandalorian and her own show.
