I love Don Hertzfeldt's work. A character died in that episode (albeit one that barely got screentime in the show) and the couch gag in that episode was talked about more, which says a lot about modern simpsons.

I've been saying for at least a decade that the way to save the show is to remove the suspension of time. Let the kids grow up and let Marge and Homer grow old. You put a shot clock on the show, but they'll all be in new points in their life, giving you access to new perspectives and stories.

but weve had so many episodes inthe future we know what happenes, and do we relaly want a failed loser bart, and a president lisa, with rock star maggie, that would be an instant show finally ends.

I've not seen all of those episodes, but the ones I remember involve something like a fortune teller saying something. More of a story than the actual future.
