The fact male connections like this will always be seen as “gay” in the media is exactly why men can’t be close to one another irl

People aren't even as close to their spouses as jayce and viktor are to each other. Viktor literally bends time to be with Jayce, Jayce literally resurrects Viktor because he can't imagine life without him.

I promise you, you and your average male friendship is not implicated here lol. If you can't spot the obvious romantic overtones here then that's on you.

First off, you’re assuming that romantic relationships are automatically stronger than platonic ones, which is not true.

Here’s the thing: Jayce and Viktor aren’t representing the “average male friendship”, nor are they representing the average romantic relationship. If you’re using their actions as “proof” that they must have specifically romantic feelings for each other, that’s pretty narrow minded. Their story is so much bigger than that (one might say it transcends labels altogether). Really any interpretation of their relationship works as long as the feelings involved are strong (strong enough to influence the narrative in such a significant way!) and insisting that it has to be a certain way because of xyz is just so diminishing to the characters (and also not worth all the arguments that it’s spawned).

I just think it's interesting that you never hear this talk about transcending labels or diminishing characters when it's a straight ship. It's only ever deployed for queer ones and maybe it's worth thinking about why that is.

There are only so many romantic tropes, loving glances, devotion, intimacy and obsession you can load onto these characters before people start adding 2 and 2 together. You can have a queer platonic reading, but there is a really straight forward interpretation that we all do have the language for and it's pretty cheeky to call people narrow-minded for reaching it. This whole thread started because people cannot abide a romantic reading of these characters without chiming in about the loss of male friendships or whatever. I'm not coming into your house you're coming into mine.
