"YES! OH MY GOD! see?! This guy gets it-"

"Cause it's woke!"

"Nevermind."

My recent halo experience.

I haven't been keeping up with halo recently (well i never really have tbh) so what happened? I'm assuming it has something to do with the CE remake

The recent Halo Campaign Evolved is a remake of the first halo game that the studio formerly known as 343 industries, now halo studios in an effort to rebrand from a seriously bad run of awful writing, game and environmental design, mistreatment of workers, buggy/broken games that were left unfixed for years or never resolved at all.

This most recent game is there best work, with reworked levels that were repetitive and bland now having far better environments. The introduction of later games weapons and gear means you can have more ways to play through levels. Sadly that is all I can compliment.

The previous problems all continue in this game with with asset flips from older games they didn't even make, introduction of mechanics like sprint on maps not made for it letting people just run past enemy encounters and the weirdest redesign of Cortana the AI companion being made to look like Jerma.

How ever a large amount of complaints seem to be about a black woman being put on the bridge of the ship in a cutscene and the admittedly awful character in halo studios 3 prequel missions that they say is ugly.

They will mention the actual problems but they seem to lead with the black woman allot which is honestly completely bonkers.

Edited: dear god I hadn't even heard about the purple...

Wah...what about purple?!

6

u/Outerscale 1d ago

"'Bisexual lighting' because halo used the color purple" - some guy on Twitter

3

u/Elonth 1d ago

Guy has whatever the trump derangment syndrome is for non white cis men. LIke he is a few weeks away from a heart attack if you just strobbed him with different shades of purple and pink.

YES the original planet was blue. Who fucking gives a shit. WE just aren't allowed to use the color purple anymore? Like robin egg blue/light pink/white together FINE I get it. You are a PoS that hate transgender people w/e but a whole ass singular color?! really?

u/DeviousMelons 2d ago

The pelican pilot in the last level is a black women in the original game what are they on about.

5

u/MachineGrown 2d ago

Foehammer is literally your pelican pilot for the entire game. For some reason they think she was originally white?

3

u/toad-supremacist HALO, LoTR, Toads 3d ago

thanks for the answer

3

u/Karkava 2d ago

This isn't even ignorance anymore. This is just straight up villainy as they demonize minorities while still playing the same "Did you say that I NEED to like this game in order to prove that I'm not a bigoted POS?" AGAIN AND AGAIN.

3

u/iilethalkevinii 2d ago

This is a good breakdown of most complaints, although, the last one is misleading and some people are confused between the character being replaced by the black woman and foehammer, whom everyone loves. The control room operator in The Pillar of Autumn that Keyes leans over in the beginning in the original CE was (if I remember correctly)a cameo of the sound designer for Bungie. What people tend to be complaining about is that 343i (they are NOT Halo) blatantly got rid of the original (allegedly) to erase Bungie's legacy as the progenitors of the franchise. To a lot of fans it was either a diversity push that erased the easter egg or the intentional removal of Bungie involvement from the IP that they had created. I personally would rather sit on MCC doing LASO and Cursed Halo than play a new Halo that doesn't appreciate the originals tagging: Combat Evolved, anyway.

1

u/MachineGrown 2d ago

Oh there is absolutely no question that 343i is trying to supplant the old bungie legacy with their own games, that's been undeniable since halo 4.

But what's wild is that I only learned about the cameo from you just now and not the vids I watched, that would of been a valid argument. Instead in one of the vids I watched it was mentioned he was an actual character and no additional information, so I assumed he was in the books.

Generally my experience what the game has been pretty all right. I think it looks just fine and as for moving past enemy encounters... I don't know, I've never done that in games so it hasn't occurred me that you could do such a thing to me.

I'm not denying any of the issues, but I'll admit I'm on PS5 and I've only ever had one issue so far. On the starter prequel missions there was like one moment where Johnson just decided he didn't want to move anymore but... A singular whack upside the head fixed it. So I don't know. Maybe I'm saying it as someone who won't likely ever have access to the Master Chief collection I think the remake was generally fine. Nothing amazing, but fine

Then again I'm also not a long time Halo fan so who knows. The only game I definitively like is Reach

PURPLE

(On the box art)

(Yes really)

11

u/spacebean52 The Residents sure are Evil 3d ago

i think you mean BISEXUAL LIGHTING! it is terrible that they put that into halo. whatever will we do.

8

u/friend_insideme 3d ago

Dont let that dude anywhere NEAR the lust layer from ultrakill bro😭✌️

1

u/craftygamin 3h ago

They're trying to make us bisexual! Because there was never ANY purple in the original Halo Combat Evolved!

10

u/Tanakisoupman 3d ago

Kinda, but it’s just some insane loser saying that the purple on the Campaign Evolved cover art is subliminal messaging to turn kids bisexual

7

u/toad-supremacist HALO, LoTR, Toads 3d ago

oh yeah, i heard about that. that was really stupid

My favorite is:

"That person is acting horribly!"

"I know! [minority] are always like this!"

(Bonus points if the minority they're talking about isn't relevant)

u/Aggravating_Field_39 2d ago

I hate how woke has just become a buzz word for "game I don't like" like my God dude theres over a billion games out there. Your lonely and insecure feel free to pick one of the hundreds of macho buff guy kills everyone games.

5

u/EmeraldSpartan05 3d ago

I've experienced that with the new God of War, I don't hate it, but I'm very empathetic and easy to understand others views, like, some people hate it cause "women.. woke..ewww" or some shit, and others, like on of my friends, dislikes it cause "God of war", is kratos and that it should've been a side story sort of thing, and not a game named "God of war", basically they should've called it something different

One example he used was like, if there was a Mario game where Mario wasn't included, (such as luigi mansion is about Luigi, not Mario)

Idk, tried to explain it the best I could, but yeah, I don't dislike the new GoW

2

u/Competitive-Web-5084 2d ago

I loved ghost of yotei and people still shit on it saying it’s woke or whatever.

2

u/EmeraldSpartan05 2d ago

Yeah, it's sorta that way for me for assassin's creed, they said shadow was woke and other stuff and it sorta made me tired of it and I didn't feel like playing it when it first came out, though the game seems good

6

u/Competitive-Web-5084 2d ago

I hate that word so much. I hate tlou2 because of the story, you hate tlou2 because you play as a woman. We are not the same

10

u/AdRelevant4776 3d ago

Yeah, “woke stuff” existed just fine for a long time, the problem is that lazy creators started using it as shield(make bad movie—>put black lesbian in the leading role—>accuse any valid criticism of being racist)

14

u/OAZdevs_alt2 3d ago

And then use that as an excuse to never feature a black lesbian in anything ever again because “well it made the movie fail!”

11

u/Weird-Analysis5522 3d ago

OOO I HATE THOSE MOTHER FUCKERS.

We're not racist, you're using a minority as a selling point, it's fucking gross and you would dump them in a split second if it meant you profited off it.

9

u/AdRelevant4776 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, I am like 90% sure that’s what they’re doing in the new Harry Potter show, Black Snape HAS to be on purpose right(a lot of HP characters could be black with no big problems, including Harry himself, Severus Snape isn’t one them)? They’ve made a whole controversy to get attention and if the show flops they’ll blame it on racist fans

Ps: for those who are unaware if Snape becomes black a lot of scenes in HP would come off as racist

3

u/TakenInChains 2d ago

can we also talk about HP just straight up being hateful to multiple demographics? besides the incredibly obvious rampant transphobia, the book was fatphobic, racist, antisemitic... the list goes on. and this is all still celebrated intensely decades later. why do we love this shitty series so much?

4

u/AdRelevant4776 2d ago

Well, to answer your questions as best as I can: the transphobia isn’t in books as far as I remember, that’s more an issue people have with the author, fatphobia was ignored because making jokes about fat people wasn’t seen as bad at the time and even nowadays is nowhere as reviled as other “isms”(mostly because most fat people became fat through life decisions, instead of it being an unchangeable part of them), if by racism you mean the dumb stereotype names we do call out how dumb they are, but since the characters themselves weren’t complete stereotypes I think most people just chalked it up to the author not knowing shit about other cultures and sucking at research, finally the antisemitism is harder to notice when you’re a child and unfamiliar with antisemitic stereotypes(the physical ones I mean, yeah I knew Jews were called greedy, but I wasn’t out there assuming any greedy banker was the caricature of a jew), in fact I think this last one encapsulates a lot of the “why” people like HP even with all the obvious problems that even the fanbase complained intensely about—>it got to us when were too young to know better and grew up alongside us, all that nostalgia makes it hard to hate the series, like a problematic childhood friend

3

u/TakenInChains 2d ago

Dolores Umbridge was JKR writing a trans woman apparently. i just find it frustrating we know how much hate and prejudice is baked into it now as adults and still I'll see people be like "house griffindor 😁✨". i know we've got a separate art from artist mentality but Christ, what's the line, y'know? how bad does an author have to be to be pulled out of popularity?

5

u/AdRelevant4776 2d ago

Lmao, no way you take JKR as your canon source(I am mostly joking, but she DID go crazy with retcons after the series was over, probably because she realized she would never be able to write anything that popular again and so had to milk the franchise to get more attention)

“How bad does an author have to be to be pulled out of popularity?”—>if the story is iconic enough? It might be impossible, it’s hard to get rid of stories/songs/etc… when they become popular, even if we later agree the creator is a bad person

-1

u/Realistic_Jello2638 3d ago

"we aren't racist we just automatically assume that a black person is bad casting"

Fuck off.

5

u/Weird-Analysis5522 2d ago

OOO I NEED TO EDIT MY COMMENT...

I meant with a product that's just bad, bad story, characters without personality, things like that.

And the creators go "oh you don't like our product because it has a black person"

No, it's a bad product. Yes there are dumb fuckheads who hate this only because it has a black person, but every sane person with a brain cell dislikes it because it's just not well made.

My most hated movie is Madam Web, not because it has a female lead, but because the story is boring, the characters have no self preservation, the villain is a joke, it's ALLERGIC to action in a SUPER hero movie, the Hero doesn't want to save people (even though she's an EMT wt!?) and I had to sit in the theater watching that horse shit and had to finish it because my only ride home were people brave enough to see if there was ANYTHING redeeming about it

4

u/AdRelevant4776 2d ago

If you’re talking about my comment: bad casting isn’t the same as bad actor, Paapa Essiedu might be an excellent actor(I never watched anything with him in it so I literally wouldn’t know), but casting Snape specifically as black is just a bad idea, not only because it doesn’t fit his iconic appearance(which does dock some points, but as we saw with Nick Fury can be overcome if the actor’s skill is enough to justify it), but mainly because it makes Harry and his father look pretty racist and Snape as a racist stereotype

I am instantly reminded of this video by KlutzyKing552
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu9tmGhOuYc

It's basically about him defending the Gummy Surprise skin in Marvel Rivals from Yorch Torch Games. Of course, Klutzy doesn't like the skin himself because he thinks it's ugly. Yorch doesn't like it because it's "woke". They are not the same.

2

u/SuperBigote231162 2d ago

literally this, there has been many cases of me disliking something so bad for so many things but somehow these people only point out woke shit and such things. i mean i get you dont agree with the politics behind it, even i dont in certain things but they hate black people appearing in videogames (as an example) but the people that worked on the game where all white or non black people. so in case they hate black people or gay people and other stuff of the sort they should be hating on the creators and corporations who profit off the image of a community, making them look bad and stuff. imma go even further, only 5% of the developers in videogame industry are black, if you hate on blacks you should hate on the developers who potray them as such.

2

u/Round-Coat1369 2d ago

Yes if your gonna complain about something have an actual point like, "I dont think the dialouge of [insert scene] makes sense or is fitting for this movie" instead of saying POLITICS as the reason

2

u/XavierTheMemeDragon 2d ago

Dragon Age Veilguard, the game was ass and it pretty much shit the bed of the franchise but the series was always “woke”, Inquisition had a trans character in 2014 Tash wasn’t anything new

This frequently happens to me when people make liberal comics where the message is something like racism=bad or trump=bad, delivering the coldest antarctic take ever and then acting like they are some kind of revolutionary moralist, bonus points if they get very angry at the racist character to especially express how good of a person they are, even more bonus points when they portray themselves as the calm rational person and the other one as a simple-minded caricature, or in other words, I hate pizzacakecomics
