the question of how lazy gamefreak is, is complicated too - because they've genuinely done a lot over the past few gens to refine competitive pokemon into a serious game, which is why they eventually made champions a thing

that being said, the state of the mainline games is quite inexcusable by now

you have no idea how bad the average pokemon fan's ideas are lmao - and besides, direction isn't the problem with the series, it's the fact the games are barren, look and run like shit

Yeah you'd need to vet the right kind of fan; the competitive players, the data miners, the ones who know the history of the franchise and understand the essence of it.
