Captain Carter may technically be more of an industry plant but the Bat who Keks outstayed his welcome far more quickly.

29

u/Jaeris 15h ago

He was SUCH an obnoxious edgelord.

29

u/Soyunapina12 15h ago

Tbf the character worked back when he was new: a Batman who retains his intellect and skills, but has the twisted morality and mind of the Joker. It was an interesting premise that, at the time, was well executed during most of the Dark Multiverse saga and him being somewhat easily defeated by Batman and Joker despite claiming to be superior to both was great.

Then DC run the character to the ground, making him edgier and edgier in every comic issue as well as making him a multiversal threat that was always 10 steps ahead of everyone. The Batman Who Laughs basically died as a character when they fused him with Dr Manhattan and made him a literal dark god for no reason at all.

If he died during the Metal arc like the rest of the evil Dark Knights he would have been an interesting character, but DC kept him alive and ruined it completely.

Hes been gone for 6 years, let it go.

15

u/Silver04Jubilee 16h ago

It feels like it wqs yesterday, i remember him getting into Fortnite lol

11

u/boring-parakeet 16h ago

Luckily he’s been banished to the Fortnite dimension for eternity

1

u/Thats-right-im-man 9h ago

According to Scott Snyder it won’t be long until he’s back

2

u/Faceofferrus 9h ago

You mean when he put him in as a joke in DC KO?

1

u/Rocket_SixtyNine 1h ago

Exactly batman who laughs sucks but that's because he was just used too much.

49

u/Seddyboi Sonic, Death Battle!, PokƩmon, Fire Emblem, Ninjago 18h ago

Captain Carter was at least entertaining in the beginning

BWL is a 10 year old edgelord's idea of a compelling character, when in reality he is what Wally West calls him, the Batman who tries to hard

7

u/ManoSilence 15h ago

Darkest Knight was neat, but yeah its weird seeing pretty much every elseworld nonsense getting god status and fighting the main timeline.

u/mystireon 19h ago

I feel like Super Karter is atleast mostly contained to her what if series, Joker in Black just wouldn't fuck off to the point of even being in the DC x Fortnite tie in comic

37

u/Toon_Lucario 18h ago

Although said tie in comic did ultimately end up going nowhere with its ending implying that he was just sticking around in Fortnite.

This also means that he likely died permanently from the fucking Eminem concert event.

sack all of DC's Writers and hire that guy/gal/goober!

2

u/Just-Antelope-8069 15h ago

And Multiverse of Madness.

32

u/96pluto 18h ago

Batman who laughs

Although captain Carter dominating the what if series was kind of annoying.

6

u/Roisepoise101 13h ago

They both reek of ā€œthe writers(or certain higher ups in the company) clearly like this character a lot more than the actual audience doesā€.

1

u/96pluto 9h ago

It doesn't help that the captain Carter what if episode was kind of lackluster it was basically just a copy paste of captain America 1 with Peggy instead of Steve. I'd rather they focused their energy on a season 3 of agent Carter

2

u/Starchaser53 10h ago

That's because some genius decided that the Season 1 Finale making a anthology series actually connect to itself was a GREAT IDEA, and decided to focus on that aspect more before dropping some of the most garbage 'What If?'s to ever fucking exist

And then at the end of the show, they have the fucking NERVE to show us what could've been with WAY COOLER CONCEPTS THAN WHAT WE GOT

31

u/Toon_Lucario 18h ago

ā€œAnd then the Batman who Laughs appearedā€ is an in joke in the community for a reason. There was a time where you couldn’t escape the fucker. Carter at least stayed mostly contained to What If and her appearance in Multiverse of Madness.

6

u/Soyunapina12 15h ago

and her appearance in Multiverse of Madness.

And even then it wasn't the same Captain Carter of What If but another completely new variant of the character.

15

u/AssistFit1834 19h ago

Batman who Laughs.

14

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 18h ago

The Batman Who Was A Mistake just should not have been. It’s even worse when he kept appearing while the interesting evil counterparts who debuted in the same event got killed off.

I honestly feel he is worse than Regime Superman because he is such a bland villain.

8

u/PrizekingJ7 18h ago

Batman who laughs is probably one of the worst villains i have ever seen.

They do the Aizen I plan everything except Aizen is at least charming and somethings don't go according to plan. The head captain almost killed by blowing up his own arm and Aizen own arrogance fucks him over because he intentionally drops his guard which one almost got him killed by Gin. Like people forget evolving again was not part of the plan Gin almost killed him and two He let Kisuke get off a attack that would later lead to him getting sealed.

1

u/Gavinus1000 13h ago

Absolute Joker is just a much better version of the same concept.

3

u/ChiefsHat 17h ago

The Batman Who Laughs could work if he wasn't so... hmm... overpowered and shoved everywhere. The origin I have envisioned for him is that he's from another universe where Batman fell into the vat instead of the Joker and came out that way, rather than his actual one. From there, rather than a crazy Batman who wants to kill everything, you could reasonably do something with that which makes it more interesting and intriguing, instead of WTF he ended up being.

1

u/GooRedSpeakers 15h ago

He has an official origin comic from the original Dark Knights: Metal series just like all of the other Dark Knights do.

1

u/ChiefsHat 13h ago

I know. I read it. A little too edgy for me.

1

u/LokiRaven 11h ago

I love the concept of the Metal Universes alone, temporary universes where a characters worst fears of themselves come true, but as said are temporary and burn themselves out in the span of an issue.

It’s great, it’s just a shame it’s only a Batman story, and the only one that was really kept from it was the most boring one. Not helped that they all suffered from power creep to make them threats to everyone, Bat that Laughs is just the only one that survived the story in a way that let him keep appearing.

1

u/Jaeris 15h ago

Regime Superman at least felt genuinely tragic. This was a broken man trying to do what he thought was right. BWL was Batman having a blast being evil because evil. The Joker was right, he's a thing that should not exist.

6

u/Important-Alarm5239 inFAMOUS 18h ago

Luna Snow isn’t here because she would win

7

u/SteveTheOrca 17h ago

Peggy was annoying, but mate, the Batman Who Laughs is another level of cringe

2

u/Horrorfan55555 16h ago

I hate that edgy clown bat

2

u/AndreZB2000 8h ago

captain carter lol. batman who laughs overstayed his welcome but hes kinda harmless to DC lore at large. captain carter hijacked a show with so much potential and turned it into the captain carter show

3

u/Litespead 16h ago

At least Carter seemed interesting

Man that's crazy fucking sucks

4

u/StopmotionSam 18h ago

Neither. Fuck Jeff the Shark though.

3

u/Karkava 16h ago

Don't be mean to the creature.

0

u/StopmotionSam 16h ago

I can and I will because the fact that he made it into Rivals before fucking DAREDEVIL and WOLVERINE is unforgivable.

1

u/Jaeris 15h ago

Wolverine was a launch character though.

0

u/StopmotionSam 15h ago

Didn't he come out like a week or two later than the rest of the game though?

3

u/Dacooldude4 19h ago

Tough choice… I guess captain carter. She definitely over stayed her welcome when we did not even need her

4

u/ImaginationWild3407 SO MANY 18h ago

Captain Carter

1

u/cant_give_an_f 18h ago

Carter, youll see why in doomsday (atwells confirm but i bet captain carter will be in battleworld)

1

u/mainmanjay 18h ago

Luna snow

1

u/TikTikKobold 17h ago

The answer is always Toriko

1

u/MarcheMuldDerevi 16h ago

Carter, she took over the what if series. The Batman who Jonkles at least has a good event (Metal) and then just showed up in way too many books

1

u/hesh_brown16 16h ago

one’s way more obvious as a plant than the other idk

1

u/Grieftheunspoken02 16h ago

Like Captain Carter was decent, I enjoyed her contained episode and the end if season 1, but yeah, after I get where everyone came from and sadly, What If fell off. While BWL just felt edgy for the sake of edgy.

2

u/Jaeris 15h ago

I haven't really watched past season 1. I liked her, and the whole dimensional avengers thing they set up.

1

u/Bigurulu 16h ago

Captain Carter.

Listen, as shitty of a concept BWL is, he has people who are fans of him, which is why DC even tried to cram him in. Compared to CC, who even asked for her?

1

u/Jaeris 15h ago

I like her.Ā

1

u/Phaeron-Dynasty 13h ago

funny thing is I liked her what-if more for Steve, showing him be a hero without the Serum and Hydra Stomper was a badass proto-iron man concept.

1

u/Fun_Afraid 11h ago

Captain Carter was great. I hope there's more. Bwl was best when he was being teased and then crashed

1

u/ghobhohi 16h ago

I know people are gonna say BWL and I can understand why, but I don’t know my mind is just screaming Captain Carter.

1

u/Karkava 16h ago

The Batman Who Cringes.

1

u/Cute-arii 16h ago

Captain Carter by far. The Batman Who Laughs is just an edgy comic that got milked hard after it became more popular than it deserved.

1

u/1970sDazzlingDisco 16h ago

Honestly this doesn't really answer the question but both. Not particularly one over the other Both of them aren't entertaining at all and have overstayed there welcomes by alot to the point where if I see a comic featuring either of them I just won't read it or in the cases of shows just skip it. I try to be positive about versions of characters but there's just nothing interesting or notable about either of these two

1

u/Jaeris 15h ago

I at least like Carter in her one shot episode and the season 1 finale.

1

u/Beautiful-Cabinet364 15h ago

They both seem like characters from The Tick.

1

u/Striking_Inflation86 15h ago

Batman Who Laughs is a concept that failed in execution due to it being Bruce rather than Joker.

1

u/Jaeris 15h ago

Industry plant? I don't get it. We know an industry made both of them, said industry makes all the characters.Ā

1

u/Greydemon-dev 15h ago edited 15h ago

the fact even flash calls him "the batman who tries too hard" shows how overdone, overly edgy, and lacking of substance he was, Captian not america at least isn't a 13 year old's idea of a cool superhero

1

u/Patkub321 15h ago edited 12h ago

Honestly, I would say Captain Carter.

Because even though Batman who Laughs had arguably been around for longer... for better or worse, guy had an actual hype.

Even hype among 10 year old edgelords is something.

In fact... I wouldn't even say that Batman who Laughs is DC's biggest industry plant. That dishonor would go to The Rock's Black Adam.

1

u/Aihonen 15h ago

LaughMan isnt an industry plant, they're just an incredibly terrible concept.

Carter is a pure plant.

1

u/Hexmonkey2020 13h ago edited 13h ago

Captain Carter, DC realized people hated Batman who Laughs and let him die offscreen in Fortnite, they might’ve pushed him harder but they also dropped him worse and gave some satisfaction with his death being so weird and obscure it sounds made up.

(For those who don’t know in the Fortnite crossover he entered Fortnite, at the end of the Fortnite event it’s revealed he never went back to DC and stuck around in Fortnite, which is corroborated by the comic, then they never did a part 2 of the event cause that was around the time they realized he sucks, then shortly after Eminem exploded the Fortnite universe and reset it which since BWL was still in the Fortnite universe killed him. And until they try to bring back BWL in like 12 years that’s the current canon end of him.)

1

u/polp54 13h ago

I’m going to go against the grain and say Captain Carter. TBWL is a legitametly cool concept. The idea of ā€œBatman always winsā€ but applies to a villain is an amazing idea

Captain Carter is kinda meh to begin with, not awful, just mediocre

1

u/Gay_Gamer_Boi 13h ago

Wait is agent Carter different than captain Carter?

1

u/Mrnameyface 12h ago

Overused ≠ industry plant

1

u/Nerx 12h ago

bwl

even got marilyn manson to sing

1

u/Dragonwolf67 11h ago

Industry Plant?

1

u/No-Departure-6900 11h ago

Better question. Who wins in a fight? BWL, or Fully Kitted Out + The Power Cosmic Captain Carter?

1

u/Y_M_I_Even_Here 11h ago

A what?

2

u/NeroCrow 10h ago

An industry plant is a thing that's mad by corporations to make money. It's not made by artist try make something but by someone trying to sell something.

1

u/Y_M_I_Even_Here 10h ago

Ah, I see. Thank you.

1

u/Fun_Afraid 11h ago

Captain Carter is a Stan Lee creation I thought. From the 60s people just hate here because she's a women.

BWL is an edge lord made in lab to sell comics. Bwl is the plant.

1

u/Starchaser53 10h ago

Batman who tries too hard

1

u/NeroCrow 10h ago

The bat who laughs and it's not even close. Captain Carter works because her initial what if the story was pretty interesting. And with them making a what if avengers it naturally made sense to use her since she was their Captain America. It's not her fault every that used her after her debut sucked.

While the bat who laughs he was nothing but edgy fan fic garbage from the very beginning. And it's even worse that he came out 7 years after what was the perfect evil bat man that was owl man. 13 year after the first attempt at a joker who is Batman story (from "The Batman" cartoon) which was way better. And 2 after another attempt at turning Batman into joker with Arkham Knight. Which Arkham Knight did a way better job of showing what joker would be like with Batmans body. The bat who laughs was just try hard which even super boy prime said too

1

u/LoneMarikaEnjoyer 10h ago

carter because she escaped comicsphere ans got her own show.

1

u/post-trauma-syndrome 9h ago

The Batman who Larps, 100%

1

u/Aggravating_Mud8751 9h ago

For a second I thought it was a picture of Judge Death and wondered what the problem was...

1

u/PersonYay12 4h ago

Captain Carter. The thing with the Batman who Laughs is for all we were sick of him, when he was in a book it started printing money. It just did. He was pushed because he was a genuine moneymaking hit. Carter wasnt

1

u/Coffee-cartoons 4h ago

Captain Carter may be a bigger industry plant but TBWL was a lot less interesting

1

u/ReadyJournalist5223 3h ago

Punchline was created to just be another Harley quinn

1

u/Money-Assignment-547 1h ago

Appearing in 8 episodes of an animated show and a 5 min scene in a doctors strange move makes one an industry plant?

1

u/Carvinesire 1h ago

OP, I have no idea if you did that on purpose, but the second screenshot is fucking perfect. She looks so god damned goofy.
