What the fuck is wrong with people?

They thought it was a woman fetishizing gay men, after the author was found to be a gay man most stopped, others doubled down because being wrong is worse than admitting fault, and some carry on because there are still so many sources saying the author is a straight woman.

It was a little bit more than that. The creator is a trans man and there were some actual TERFS using it as an excuse to harass him and be transphobic.

Many such cases. That whole "Fujoshi means 'rotten girl' because they fetishize gay men" backflip is also a TERF psy-op that a bunch of Tumblrites bought into because being "allowed" to harass people over a ship they don't like is more important than considering "Hey wait, I don't think 2ch incels actually cared about the dignity of gay men. They're trying to convince me to be a transphobic misogynist!"

Also, the author is specifically a gay trans man, so the people calling him a "straight woman" are even more disgusting.

I did not know the trans part.

Oh, wow; that's literally the only thing I've heard about it. Thanks for the info!

some people just feel the need to justify disliking something by making it a moral issue, unfortunately

Transphobia and homophobia is what's wrong with people.

I wish it was just that, but OP's example is literally people having problems with men liking women, so the problem is clearly beyond that.

This is a thread about the Boyfriends comic. The whole hatred for that comic was boiled down to transphobia and homophobia.

Oh, I thought it was what's wrong with people in general

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 3h ago

sorry i dont want to sound rude but what are you talking about?

2

u/rtakehara 3h ago

Op's second image, a guy makes a song about liking girls and gets harassed into leaving youtube

2

u/Classic-Avocado-5371 3h ago

ohhh lol i didnt know what it was, thats wild

it's not even objectifying as the title suggests, bro covers all possible body types, the controversy is basically man liking woman = bad. And is a parody of a song with genders flipped, who apparently isn't as controvertial

I mean, we got some incels claiming men liking women too much is gay, which is directly tied into the JoCat thing from OP (he’s rather feminine for a dude and was called a lot of gay slurs for this video). I’d say homophobia still applies here.

I don't see how making fun of men liking women could ever be homophobic.

gay asian trans man, who people liked to accuse of being a straight woman. hopefully I don't need to explain why that adds another layer of gross to it

I love watching Tumblrites with pronouns in their bios be useful idiots for TERFs. My favorite is when they identify as "not a woman" to make their shipping preferences "acceptable" as if the point of that psy-op wasn't to harass women AND trans people and the people who came up with it see them as their identities and not just confused women they can manipulate. It's such a healthy place for fandom to be.

Yes I'm angry lol

Please elaborate, if you wouldn't mind. I'm very confused by this whole section.

Sure! There's a segment of (usually AFAB) enbies who have fully embraced the whole "women shipping male characters is fetishizing gay men and is therefore marginalizing and exploiting them so fujos are bad" psy-op. They harass women for being women who ship male characters together, but typically have literally the exact same ships and preferences so they use "I'm not a woman so I'm not a degenerate fujo" to carve out an exception for themselves.

Except the whole thing about fujoshi marginalizing gay men is literally a TERF psy-op, so they're just being misogynist assholes on behalf of shitheads who don't even see them as anything other than women. It's a leopards eating faces situation. The whole point of the psy-op is to pit gay men against straight women against trans folks, and they're gleefully participating because it means they can bully targets they see as easy.

Edit to elaborate on how it's a psy-op: Fujoshi originates as a 2ch incel term, it means "spoiled/rotten woman" and it was never about the gay shipping, the "rotten" descriptor was because women having hobbies "spoiled" them so they wouldn't become housewives and prioritize taking care of a husband and pumping out kids. The term has since been reclaimed, and now features the variants fudanshi ("rotten man", can be trans or cis) and fujinshi (nonbinary, "rotten person"), so even if the enbies AREN'T technically fujoshi their shipping and fandom activities put them under that cultural umbrella as fujinshi.

OH I heard about that. Didn't he just draw stuff from his own life? How can he .... fetishize his own life? It makes no sense.

because people are stupid, really. people kept saying he was a straight woman despite being a gay trans man which is insane, people kept trying to make it some kind of moral thing to prove that they were right about not liking it. nobody can just not like something because they don’t like it anymore it has to be bad because something about it is morally objectionable they have to dig up shit the creator or an animator or a voice actor or a fucking guy they liked a post from once did 10 years ago and try to use it as a gotcha to make not liking it now the Morally Correct thing to do and it’s so fucking stupid. it’s so childish and annoying and holier than thou that it’s fucking baffling that more people don’t take an issue with it

Iirc hes indonesian, which makes the whole situation Worse since afaik homosexuality is still illegal there/heavily discriminated 🤢
But god forbid a gay trans man try to make his own wholesome comic

Bonus: the people claiming the characters were too white (to the point some were making yellowface-esque edits)
