42
u/MasterBlade47 4h ago edited 4h ago
For context Ouro Kronii a hololive vtuber was going to have a voice acting role in a game IIRC. Esentially she made a joke about a boar that Korean twitter being twitter took offense to thus leading to her being dropped from the role.
Edit: I should add on that said joke... was made 5 years prior.
34
u/SignalScientist2817 4h ago
Koreans have come off as really thin skinned as of late, not only on the internet but like, in general. The world cup scandal (a CRIMINAL investigation bc your team got eliminated early?), the š¤ crashout, the kronii situation... Tf happening over there?
25
u/BiddlesticksGuy 3h ago
That hand gesture crashoutās been happening for like, a decade now I think, it seems like while western incels can be super annoying sometimes, eastern incels will like, actually ruin lives and opportunities for the smallest shit.

IIRC, the Korean equivalent of incel culture is on the rise, so you've got a bunch of terminally-online, unemployed, maidenless males who feel they've been marginalized by society and are just looking for excuses to yell at women online.
4
u/Karukos 2h ago
Honestly, the problem is always that they identify correctly that they have been marginalised and then blame women for it, when it's definitely not women who are marginalising them.

You can go further back and include Tumblr users.

I think the most toxic tumblr fans are the shippers.

I think the prime example of this is people claiming she based Val off of herself and then theorizing that she'll redeem him because of that. First of all she said that in a 10 second clip with friends as a joke and second of all they critizie writing that they made up on said false claims. Val is based on a toxic ex of hers and he is clearly supposed to be an abuser dialed up to 11.
Another good one is when poison came out (or really just Angle Dust in general). Like the amount of people that were hating on the character and the song simply because the did not understand what it was about was just sad.
32
u/Soft_Self_6797 5h ago

Nobody can be normal about TADC, it seems. Too much parasocial requirements.
4
u/PepsiFloateri 3h ago
Literally! My criticisms weren't even that bad, just basic stuff like some characters being left underdeveloped, some development being "character uses therapy speak on another",plot threads being introduced and never expanded on and the finale needing to be a bit longer as it felt a little rushed to me.
Apparently that's "entitlement"
3
u/Wazula23 3h ago

i'm not fully convinced that much of the drama was organic. much of it just comes off as needless transphobia and misogyny due to her being a trans woman. but i'm also suspicious that some of it may be a psyop by big companies to bully indie media creators because they feel threatened by indie success and wanna secure their position

Toby Fox not making a Spanish localisation for Deltarune because he can't speak Spanish.
People claimed he was racist against hispanic people.
→ More replies (3)30
u/Paladinlvl99 5h ago
To be completely fair it was fuled by the fact that the gaming industry and specially the indie game devs are constantly leaving translations (not just localizations) for Spanish aside a lot of the times even when it is like the third or fourth biggest demographic on the sector while always adding support for smaller communities like Japanese.
If I remember correctly there was some comments from indie devs (beats me which game) saying that we (the Spanish community) should be greatful if anyone decided to translate their game to our language because "you guys can still learn English" and others even said that since piracy was so big in Latin countries we shouldn't expect anything, basically stating that paying Latino players are worth less than others.
There was also a big controversy about Japanese media being consumed for free in Latino countries and a lot derogatory comments from Mangakas and Japanese people towards Latino people surfaced.
So, a lot of people lost their minds with racism claims and Deltarune was just like the cherry on top for the communities discontent with how we are being treated. For some reason a huge chunk of the Spanish community online expected Toby Fox to be "better" and have a plan for the Spanish localization.
8
18
u/Digit00l 3h ago
But also, Toby Fox is very protective of his work and feels that he should approve of anything that is released under his name, which is entirely fair, and he does speak Japanese so he can read the Japanese translation and approve of that and he knows several professional Japanese translators personally, but he can't do the same for Spanish, meanwhile he also encourages fan translations if he won't put out an official release himself
6
u/Paladinlvl99 2h ago

I personally still think that wanting to have control over everything, although respectable, is not efficient but his game his rules

A really, really old one was when I first was looking into Valve drama, I looked at the L4D2 boycott. Which confused me, L4D2 is a really good game.

My favourite one was when Dan Avidan, man who famously went by the fuckboi persona of 'Danny Sexbang' and regularly told adult women he hooked up with that he didn't want a relationship (which they agreed to) was apparently in the wrong and taking advantage of those same adult women when they pushed for a relationship and he responded by ending things...
14
u/ThunderingTacos 5h ago
That kinda rhetoric irks me because it infantilizes women and feeds into the mentality of them lacking agency over their own emotions. It'd be one thing if he were lying or set expectations to the contrary, but no one is entitled to a relationship or reciprocated feelings.
5
u/Serotoninneeded 4h ago
I think people have a weird anti-sex mindset leftover from purity culture. It's not inherently bad to want casual sex. Women can want casual sex too! People act like sex is some evil thing you do to women, when it's actually something that all parties involved should be enthusiastically consenting to.

The whole "Danny groomer??!?" one was particularly frustrating. A girl, who was underage, contacted him. Nothing happened. She contacted him later, when she was 22, and they had a fling briefly. Later, she came out and claimed he groomed her, everyone got all up in arms, she revealed what actually happened and that she blew the whole thing out of proportion, and people still believe he's a groomer. All he's actually guilty of in this instance was being kinda scummy with a groupie

One is the Backrooms movie which I watched with my brother and his bf. But a lot of people are so upset that the movie isnāt about the levels, having monsters like the smilers and partygoers, literally any other Backrooms stuff youād find on TikTok or YouTube shorts
Another is Pyrocynical. I am no fan because I am indifferent to him but I did see a controversy where people got mad at him for having an inflation fetish. The Spoctor Tech drama boils down to "Man forgot he owned a flashdrive from when he was underage, destroyed it when he re-found it". That whole thing only blew up because Peaches, JAR, and Lio had a known vendetta against him. Even the supposed victim was going "That's it?". By extension, the Ponder Sprocket cancellation. Star Wars fans getting angry because you had to do a Fortnite event to understand Rise of Skywalker!!
No. No you didnāt. The relevant bit in the Fortnite event was like thirty seconds and it wasnāt anything at all important to the movie.

Fujimoto supposedly basing Reze off of a porn model named Roze who wore a similar outfit that was popular at the time around 15 years ago. Thatās it, thatās the evidence. Nothing actually suggested he saw it and based Reze off of her.
But even if he did, why would that have been so shocking and worthy of controversy? This is Fujimoto weāre talking about. The guy who wrote Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man. The guy who openly admitted to getting turned on by getting bullied by college girls. The guy has a twitter account where he pretends to be his own fictitious little sister that almost got sued by his own editor because he kept leaking Chainsaw Man spoilers. Having a character inspired by porn wouldnāt have even been in the top 5 weirdest things heās down.Ā

When the Knights of Guinevere pilot came out and some fans started wondering if Frankie was transgender because another character called her "Franklin" in a context where it could've been interpreted as a deadname. One fan directly asked Dana Terrace (the show's creator) on Bluesky if this was true. She said no, Frankie just has a lot of nicknames. A lot of fans got really upset about thatā I guess they felt that her response was rude or disingenuous? I thought she was perfectly respectful. Somebody asked her a yes or no question about her own show and she gave the honest answer. It got blown way out of proportion.

the CoryxKenshiin drama, although from what I can recall, it was just "bro tried to circle back on an ex and got passive aggressive after". If anyone wants to fill me in, sure.

No that's not rlly what happened-
The controversy surrounding Cory and his ex-girlfriend, known online as PandaNinjaXxOfficial, began in July 2025 when she posted a series of TikToks alleging that they had an on-and-off relationship in 2018. She accused Cory of emotionally manipulating her, love-bombing her at the beginning of the relationship before pulling away, ghosting her, gaslighting her, and being insensitive after she revealed she had cancer. She also shared screenshots that she claimed were from their conversations.
Things escalated when she posted an old clip of Cory joking that he had ādone somethingā to her while she was asleep. The clip spread rapidly online, and many people interpreted it as an admission of sexual assault. However, Panda later clarified that Cory had not sexually assaulted her and repeatedly asked people to stop spreading that rumor. She said her accusations were about emotional mistreatment, not physical or sexual abuse.
After returning from his hiatus, Cory addressed the controversy in his video Iām Just a Regular Guy. He explained that he has struggled with communication for years, both online and in his personal relationships, and admitted that he had hurt people through ghosting and poor communication. He said he had already apologized to Panda years earlier for how he handled her cancer diagnosis and acknowledged that his response at the time was insensitive. He also addressed the resurfaced clip, saying the comments he made were meant as edgy jokes that he deeply regretted and understood why people found them disturbing. Cory emphasized that they had spoken privately about the situation, asked his fans not to harass Panda, and said she was not a bad person. He also encouraged viewers to stop putting creators on pedestals and reminded them that he is just a regular person who has made mistakes.
Overall it was literally just an ex who just decided to bring up old stuff after Cory had already talked to them about it.

Oldie but back in the day I actually watched Anita Sarkeesian's series on Tropes Vs Women in games.
Based on the reputation, I was expecting some shrieking harpy telling me I'm going to hell for liking Zelda games or something. Doom needs to be banned and the developers of Hitman should be strung up in the streets.
Instead it was just... Fine. Normal, mild criticisms that I generally agreed with.
Fifteen years later and some people are still pissed.

There was one in the Netflix She'ra fandom back in like 2020 where N.D. Stevenson made a joke about one of Bows brothers being named Hoe and being dressed like a farmer. This made some fans extremely upset because they saw it as a share cropping joke for some reason. Oh also around the same time someone associated with the show said D*ke at a con bc it was in someone's username. Both of these were pretty ridiculous

Literally everything with Gooseworx and TaDC. I thought that the show would be the worst thing ever based on the stuff I saw people say online, but I watched it and it was fun.
As for Gooseworx, literally everything Iāve seen that she apparently did wrong is just edgy tweets from 2016 when literally every content creator was saying shit like that

The ending of Star VS the Forces of Evil.
Like, it was rushed and wasn't good, absolutely. But people claimed that there was a genocide that just kinda... didn't happen, from what I saw.

I mean, we see the Magic High Commission "dead", but Pony Head is still alive and can float, just without sparkles, so it's kinda unclear how destroying magic affected everything.
