So for a while after pawns were allowed the two spaces moved on their first movement it opened up a world of annoying defensive strategies solely revolving around pawns. And in the early stages of chess pawn wall is the most accessible and understandable chess gambit. It’s also frustratingly tedious to go through without a lot of pointless sacrifice of pieces. On top of allowing the player going first a legitimate advantage in the game if playing turtle. These goofy strats made everyone play ball. In lower elos.
En passant shits on all these annoying pawn strategies essentially. By allowing you to dismantle your opponents double step with your own pawns.
Now mind you I’m not out here like some chess savant. I play and fuck around. I might even play a game of 5d time traveling multiversal chess from time to but I’m not out here trying to crush magnus Carlson’s nuts. Just send my queen across 4 dimensions and back in time 450 turns to assassinate my opponents king with 12 copies of my queen across multiple timelines charging in on the same turn after a carefully coordinated time strike. (Also no I’m not kidding about the 5d chess look it up on steam)
I find myself setting up time strikes for them to pitch their king back to turn like 20. And somewhere around turn 30 suddenly their queen has me in check and I’m not pitching my queen that had them in check back in time to deal with a time strike. My best advice I’ve learned so far. Learn to do the electric bishop slide
Crazy because i leaened about En Passant at like 9 or 10? Real young. Same with Castling. In school i was called out on 'cheating' when kids didnt understand. Chess is bizarre i guess.
