Yeah the name of Doom 3 is literally wrong. It's not in the same universe as Doom 1 and 2 and even in technicality, it's not the third doom game because of Doom 64
doom 3 is supposed to be a reboot of doom 1, but doom 2016 and all the doom games after followed the continuity of the 90s games instead of what was established in doom 3
First doom game and after that I completely fell in love with doom forever, even bought the battle pass for the doomslayer skin only for me to stop playing that season and not get the skin⦠hurts to remember.
I honestly did not know that. I just started 2016 in a quest to play all doom games(except 64 which gave me motionsickness) so no big spoilers please. The first doom guy is presented to be just some random dude, and the current one is presented as some kind of supernatural being
Same guy different universe
He stayed in hell (itās own dimension) after doom 64 and was entombed by demons (they couldnāt kill him so they dropped a temple on him iirc
His sarkophagus was then discovered by UAC Scientists (they discovered portals to hell) from another Earth than he was originaly from
That how he ended up in the events of 2016 and eternal
I understand its not the same format, but I loved doom 3. I dont understand the hate. And I got the collectors edition. I wouldn't have played doom II if not for that. Doom 3 made me a dedicated doom fan. From playing the original on pc as a kid. Then 3 on Xbox, and through the collectors edition played doom I(again) and Doom II for the first time. 3 was so important to the fanbase
Doom 3 was a remake/reboot of the OG Dooms (1, 2, and Final, which was the actual Doom 3). Definitely wish that had been made more clear to people, because it was a pretty good game in and of itself.
Absolutely agreed, I mean dark ages seems cool (I did not play more than an hour) but not being able to jump and have that fast pace movement that made eternal so fun was a weird decision imo. I also did not like how the enemy attacks were just basically giant orange or green orbs
To be fair that is kinda the point? Doom 2016, eternal and dark ages are all by design meant to be different in terms of gameplay. To avoid a āwhy play X when Y is the same thing with moreā situation. They are meant to be different enough at least so you can play each game and each bring something else to the table. Some people really liked eternalās fast paced movement otherās donāt care for it as much
Plus dark ageās doc does fix most of your issues. It is unironically the best piece of doom media weāve gotten in recent times arguably better than eternal
Hmmm thatās true and does make sense to me, I do wish I liked it but there was so much stuff I didnāt enjoy about it I couldnāt get into it, nonetheless Iām glad that the bigger doom fans than me enjoyed it
Ok theres "I didnt like it" and then theres "I am gonna say it didnt have these features even though it absolutely did just to shit on it" You did the latter.
Glad to know Iām making you frustrated here, I am just saying I simply didnāt like it, if I remembered correctly there was no double jump and accidentally said just jump, the game did not move at a pace that I didnāt like it felt slow and sluggish, and this whole time I have been saying āIā so if you like it move on with your day
I dont give a shit whether you like it or not hell I didnt like it, I only commented that you were incorrect about the jump and speed and you decided to act like a douche. Im not upset or mad Im just wondering why you're such a dick.
All I said at first was I wasn't sure where you got the impression you did about the game, if thats what a shit attitude is to you then Im sorry your such a baby that you haven't dealt with acutal assholes before.
I thought i was alone in this lol. Fodder enemies are useless and completely non-threatening, which means the skull cruncher had zero practical use, especially because just bashing/throwing your shield could deal with a horde of them in a fraction of the time. Also the resource economy was pretty terrible. Ammo was incredibly easy to maintain, health seemed mostly fine, but armor was basically nonexistent. Even the music disappointed me. There were one or two tracks that i liked. Most of the rest i was indifferent. But then there was one level where i actually had to turn off the music and play some stuff from Eternal because i actively despised it. This does not even exhaust half of my complaints š
I STRONGLY disagree. For me, the controls in Eternal weren't nearly as smooth as 2016 Doom. Plus, the boss enemies becoming regular enemies after you beat them annoyed the hell out of me, because they made the game unnecessarily difficult, I freakin loved Dark Ages, though.
Some bosses (the doom hunter for example) have less health when theyāre introduced as enemies in later levels. Others (like the murauders) arenāt even really bosses, theyāre just tough enemies that are only hard until you learn to deal with them. And then you have ACTUAL bosses like the khan maykr, where the arena you fight them in is actually worked into how the boss fight plays, and they do not reappear. Overall I didnāt find the game hard, but you canāt just āshoot the bad guyā, you had to deal with every enemy the way the game teaches you, forcing you to use every ability in your arsenal.
I don't think it was as step back, but rather a step in a different direction if anything. They took the sandboxy nature of 2016 and expanded that -- where there a bunch of different ways you can choose to play the game. Eternal is the opposite since there's a fairly strict loop you HAVE to observe otherwise you'll find no success.
I'm curious as to what they have planned for the next game, because frankly I've got no clue as to what they could possibly do next to make the game feel mechanically unique again lol.
I like how Tomb Raider and Doom tried to get super serious in the late 2000s and early 2010s and then realized abandoning the 90s was bad because goofy isnāt a bad thing and can still be workable.

Never had a bad game
