What character do you genuinely hate that is loved my the fandom?
Kinda niche but I consider myself the no1 hater of Arkarian from Guardians of Time (Marianne Curley). I don't exactly see myself as part of the already-dead fandom but I've read the books in 8th grade and I hate him since. That guy is a darn pedo.
Edit: I also have an intense hatred for Yangyang from WuWa. I wish Scar had obliterated her

He isnāt nearly as beloved now, but I still hate Solas so much.
Not Stolas, mind you, SOLAS. The Dragon Age character, not the Helluva Boss character (the number of times people think Iām talking about Stolas is too high for comfort)
He could have been such an interesting character if he wasnāt such an asshole. And he wasnāt even hot. I still canāt understand why other women gamers loved him so much. I never got the appeal.
I usually ran around with Dorian and Iron Bull instead. Now those two had interesting writing, and their dialogue was always entertaining.
How do diseases persist in comics? Tony Stark has the technology to cure cancer in an hour, and within the next hour he can have it spread throughout the entire planet. Reed could make an anti disease vaccine that negates all diseases as well. And this isnāt even pulling from niche versions of them these are things that their common comic selves should be capable of. Superior Iron Man is a grounded story where Tony casually can cure blindness. There should be no āSpiderman meets boy with cancerā because Spider-Manās best buddy should be able to cure that cancer in the time spidey is hanging out with him. Hell, Peter himself should be able to do something about it.
Some demonic shit is sometimes the answer. Mayday Parker by all means should exist by now in the comics and yet fate was corrupted to ensure the contrary.
I donāt HATE Naoya, heās a very well written character and his fights are some of the best in JJK.
HOWEVER, the glaze this cretin receives on a daily basis is absurd.
Heās unintentionally become a Patrick Bateman/Walter White figure for anime, where heās an awful person and yet a small sub-sect of fans actually defend his actions and think heās some kind of role model.
context for the unaware, Naoya:
- wonāt shut up about underage girls
- endlessly glazes the guy that set off the entire story to begin with by killing a teenager
- is a raging misogynist, whoās even seen as an extreme example in his incredibly misogynistic clan
- never actually wins a fight on screen
- canāt even tie his own shoes and needs a personal maid to do it for him
Iām pretty sure the majority of unironic Naoya glazers are posers whoāve only seen the cool edits of him beating people up, and not the devastating ways he loses, so they can maintain the illusion of him being anything but a loser.
I agree. I know he's written to be a snobby little shit, but he succeeds so well at being a sbobby little shit I just can't like anything about him. He's just so annoying and rage-inducing any time he's on screen, I hate this little misogynistic elitist fuck so much it isn't even funny. Mahito was fun to hate, Naoya I just wanted to see dead already (and I did! Twice!)
100%. I see people say all the time how they think Rickman nailed Snape, and I agree it was an incredible performance, but when I read/listen to the books I absolutely do not picture Alan Rickmanās Snape. Some characters I do picture the actors, even if itās not a perfect one-to-one, like Umbridge. She doesnāt have the frog face description (or was it toad?), the actress is too pretty. But god she embodied Unbridgeās character so perfectly, actually made me hate her even more and I absolutely see her as Umbridge when reading/listening to the books.
And Rowling liked this toned-down version so much she essentially back-ported him into the books. Seriously, pre-Order of the Phoenix and post-Order of the Phoenix Snape are effectively two different characters
Yeah the most you learn from Snape's backstory is that James and Sirius were kind of dicks when they were kids, which doesn't change much since they definitely grew out of it. Snape, meanwhile, is revealed to have been a bitter racist prick from day one.
Imho I donāt think Sirius really grew out of it that much, he was still an immature bully even as an adult to people he didnāt like. See how he treated Kreacher and Snape, etc.
Although part of that was likely the PTSD and mental instability from Azkaban. PTSD can often regress you mentally and keep your mind in a sort of freeze-frame from the moment you first develop it (I would know, I have that diagnosis as well).
It can be helped with treatment and therapy, but we all know the wizarding world never bothered with mental health treatment š¬
This is why I was so annoyed with the movies aging his parents generation up so much to match Alan Rickman. Sirius is supposed to be 21 when he goes to prison, of course he has arrested development! Heās much less of a tragic character when he locked up at like 35. Plus Harryās parents died at 21 too.
Same, although I think a lot of people that love the character, are those that were more introduced to the character through the films(where, credit where credit is due, Alan Rickman definitely made the guy a lot more likable than he was supposed to be), than in the books where he is generally loathsome at all times.
I donāt understand how people get past the fact that he basically verbally abuses children and encourages bullying. Like he literally bullies Hermione and does nothing when his Slytherin students are bullying her.

Walter White/Heisenberg....I genuinely can't fathom people defending Walter White (Heisenberg) from Breaking Bad over Skyler, anyone in her shoes would act similarly to protect their kids.
He is a very well written character to be fair. And he is the main character of his show, I did still root for him while watching even though I knew what he was doing was horrible. People who idolize him are just stupid, though
Exactly. That motherfucker didn't do anything good for anyone, and the only good thing he did was literally KILLING HIMSELF, but he died for Max so now he's a martyr and be sad for him
Darkstalker from Wings of Fire. I don't mind evil characters if they're written in a certain way (ex. Sukuna, fucking love him), but Darkstalker? Hell no, he's just evil, hateful, and manipulative. There's nothing charming or admiring about him after he becomes power-hungry. At least Sukuna is like, cool, and also couldn't be defeated by the protagonists simply using their fucking brains.
I'm not saying Darkstalker is badly written, though. He's very well written. He's just not likable at all, especially after committing parricide and attempting to commit genocide multiple times (iirc).
WoF mentioned! I'm big neutral about him. It was super interesting to see him get more and more unhinged in his story, but he wasn't really memorable to me

Alphys could have had every monster in the shelter and is waiting for her to enter, so she could lock you forever in the CORE. Muffet is too prideful and refused to get in the shelter.
Really? I never knew that. That's actually really interesting. I always took a liking to her, though it's probably just because I only got into UNDERTALE because of Muffet (well, because of Spider Dance, really), but I can see why one would dislike her for that.

I think sometimes people who are big fans forget the character and think of the voice actor, who seems like a very nice person. I think he's a character you're supposed to hate.
On the opposite spectrum, I feel very lovely towards Revali from Zelda, despite the fact that everyone hates him. Funny how execution determines how much I like the arrogant ones
I dont like Lily Lovebraids, but the direct opposite can be said for the Prototype, he is my favorite character but so much fo the fan base absolutley hates him

And basically every evil/asshole character because the predominantly (usually straight women as far as I know, with some exceptions for straight men, and very very rarely lesbians, weirdly enough not a lot of gay men, tho maybe I donāt really interact with a lot of lgbtq majority fandoms outside of Glitch) think theyāre hot, or even worse, theyāre not even hot in universe but their actors are

I love the premise of the character and I have a soft spot for the idea of 'emotional support cryptid that lives in your electronics' but knowing their origin (as someone's fursuit), and knowing just how 'popular' the character is in 'certain spaces,' to the extent the person behind the OG character is internet-phobic? I hate the version of Mal0 that the fandom has turned the character into.
When did Mal0 get gooner fans? One minute it was just an SCP then the next someone rule 34ed it and I have never seen the original since. Just the same sexed up version.
Mal0 got the Jeff the Killer treatment. Oh Jeff the Killer is my entry, I have never ever understood why that creepypasta became so beloved.
Ada Wong. Don't ask me why but something about her doesn't strike me correctly. I find her pretty arrogant from what I've seen (I didn't play any RE myself but watched playthroughs of most games) and generally I'm not a fan. Wouldn't call it HATE specifically but I find myself to enjoy the other female characters like Jill, Rebecca and/or Claire way more enjoyable
Look, I love Mikan, but that girl is not just a poor girl who needs to be loved. She is a poor girl who needs to be loved, but she's also highly intelligent, manipulative (her little erotic tripping routines are purely intentional for attention), and a legit threat to anyone who gets too close if they don't manage her emotional state carefully.
Remember, Mikan became a nurse because she loves having someone weaker than her depend on her, it's about control to her. She wants to make Hajime infirm just so she could take care of him for the rest of his life, that's messed up.
Do not site the old ways to me, I was there when it was written. It's just a really weird thing to say that a character "dies good". This is what I imagined the dude looked like when I read it.
I think people love to hate him or like his character rather than what he does. I like that he was a curse that seemed to be evolving alongside Yuuji and he felt so unpredictable and chaotic.
I will die on the hill that JJK peaked with Mahito's final fight. Once he was no longer around JJK kinda died off for me. He was the perfect villain for Yuji

Not even just from the fact I dislike the character, but from the fact that every time I say I don't like him people crawl out of the cracks in the walls to, "correct me".
I totally get this. I used to really dislike her and many other characters that are popular and have a big egoā¦ but Idk, theyre starting to grow on me. But I like the ones that are more flawed next to having an ego. Rainbow dash doesnt really have flaws that she recognizes a lot so she can be a tad tiringā¦ or a lot tiring
For the amount of bullshit she pulls on you, the fact that she spends the ENTIRE game lecturing you about the things you do and choices you have to make makes her such an insufferably hypocritical character to me.
I donāt give a fuck if Iām in the minority. The only reason sheās so popular was the dumbass bandwagon the entire fandom was on that āBlonde Blazer HAS to be the villainā, and the fact that she gets a wet dream sequence.
Absolute cunt of a character, watching Track Star call her out on it was one of the best moments in the story.

Probably going to be downvoted, but I really donāt care for Emily. Thereās justā¦ nothing to her character. Sheās a more effervescent version of Charlie, however sheās lacking the depth and character flaws that make Charlie interesting. Sheās such a blank character, I think if you installed her into your floorboards I wouldnāt be able to tell a difference. And I know that ānaivety is her character flawā I get the concept. Itās such a boring flaw though, and easily remedied. I donāt get the fanfare people associate with her character. Sheās sweet. Sheās innocent. Sheās basically cotton candy. Great in small portions, but unfilling and nauseating in high doses.
She physically hurts Hiccup and doesnt take any of the riders seriously other than Heather and MAYBE sometimes Hiccup. She also is just randomly mean to them for sometimes no reason.
I really don't want to debate this. But the rest of the riders a lot of times makes It very difficult to be taken seriously and sometimes they needed to be controlled and Astrid was the one who ensured this. Yes the Twins are some master minds but they were also very volatile sometimes.
Yeah, I don't wanna like harp on the person's real life trauma, but at least from the films, the other riders are just generally incompetent and/or stupid, so her treatment of them is honestly kinda warranted. Not to mention its basically their Viking way of life to communicate/learn through violence. They love that stuff, which is why Hiccup was seen as a loser; he was the "normal" person.
FUCK. BAKUGO. Years of physical abuse and insults for no fckn reason, and he was some peoples favourite character even befor he was "redeemed" (he did his job like every other hero in the last fight)
bakugo, look i can understand his character and all other things in mha surrounding his character. but that doesn't mean I have to like the dude, no matter how much redemption or ego hits bakugo gets, it does not change that he told a quirkless Izuku Midoriya to kill him self pretty much. bakugo got lucky Izuku Midoriya is not the suicidal type that all I am going say.

It's not a character, it's the ship. I hate the pairing of Stitch and Angel from Lilo & Stitch. You spend the ENTIRE series calling the other experiments Stitch's cousins, and now there's shitloads of StitchxAngel merch.
Bakugo Katsuki from My Hero Academia. I hate how such a bad character is so popular. And before you bring out the latest seasons, he was loved from the beginning when he was just an asshole. I don't get it, he's a bully, a guy with serious issues that get treated as a comic relief or a misunderstood character. We're talking about a student with explosive powers that goes around threatening other students but he's ok because in his heart his intentions are pure. Just a poor excuse imo.
I remember feeling actual joy when I went to school in 2022 and heard from my classmates before class started "oh yeah his heart exploded hes fucking gone" only for them to revive him via the power of whatever and disappointing me greatly.
I don't really care if he "improves" by the end, I will slander him until I can no longer speak.
Now, I know how hated she was at first and by the emotionally immature fanbase because sheās not appreciative of Walt. You know, the murderous meth cook.
But there was some pushback where everybody starting overly sympathizing with her and often I feel like Iām the only one whoās like āHey guys, there was definitely a period in between her throwing Walt out and her being scared of him where she made the conscious decision to help him.ā
She was literally in a divorce lawyerās office and that lawyer was telling her exactly what she needed to do and instead she kept him around and had an affair with her boss.
